Validation of the albumin-bilirubin score for identifying decompensation risk in patients with compensated cirrhosis
CONCLUSION: The ALBI score accurately identifies decompensation risk at the 3-year follow-up in patients with compensated cirrhosis. Those cirrhotic patients with a high-risk grade of ALBI score showed a 23 times greater odds of decompensation.PMID:37701131 | PMC:PMC10494764 | DOI:10.3748/wjg.v29.i32.4873

Clinical and prognostic significance of CCPG1 in hepatocellular carcinoma
This study aimed to examine the clinical and prognostic significance of cell-cycle progression gene 1 (CCPG1) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We firstly analyzed CCPG1 expression in various cancers using The Cancer Genome Atlas and the Genotype-Tissue Expression project databases. The relative expression levels of CCPG1 were determined in 164 paired HCC and adjacent tissues using immunohistochemistry. The correlation between CCPG1 and clinicopathological characteristics of HCC was analyzed. Cox proportional models were used to identify the prognostic factors for overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). The...

Oxidative stress in breast cancer after chemotherapy
Bioinformation. 2022 Dec 31;18(12):1141-1145. doi: 10.6026/973206300181141. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTIt is of interest to evaluate the influence of breast cancer on oxidative stress, liver function tests, renal biomarkers, action of doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide and paclitaxel (AC-T) in the treatment and mechanism over altering the measured markers in breast cancer. Sixty histopathological confirmed cases of female patients suffering with breast carcinoma from the Department of Oncology at Omega Cancer Hospital, Visakhapatnam were included in the study. The investigation was performed in 3 groups: a control group containin...

MicroRNAs Regulate Tumorigenesis by Downregulating SOCS3 Expression: An < em > In silico < /em > Approach
This study identifies the interactions of known (miR-203a-5p) and novel (miR-6756-5p, miR-6732-5p, miR-1203, miR-6887-5p) microRNAs with SOCS3 regions due to their maximum interactions. Identifying the interactions of these microRNAs with SOCS3 will significantly advance the understanding of oncomiRs (miRNAs that are associated with cancer development) in tumor development due to their influence on SOCS3 expression. These insights will assist in future studies to understand the significance of miRNA-SOCS3-associated tumor development and progression.PMID:37701630 | PMC:PMC10493049 | DOI:10.1177/11779322231193535

N-glycosylation at N57/100/110 affects CD44s localization, function and stability in hepatocellular carcinoma
Eur J Cell Biol. 2023 Sep 9;102(4):151360. doi: 10.1016/j.ejcb.2023.151360. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe glycosylation levels of proteins in cancer cells are closely related to cancer invasion and migration. CD44 is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is significantly overexpressed in a variety of tumor cells and has been proven to promote the migration and motility of cancer cells, but the effect of its N-glycosylation modification on CD44 protein function in tumors is less studied. Here, we investigated the effect of six N-glycan chains (N25/57/100/110/120/255) on CD44s localization, function and stability in hepatoca...

Improving diverse participation in cancer clinical trials
Trans Am Clin Climatol Assoc. 2023;133:149-156.ABSTRACTDespite significant improvement in overall cancer mortality (>30% since 1991), these survival benefits have not been experienced by all groups uniformly especially in those of diverse heritage. Drivers of cancer health inequity are multi-factorial including more adverse social determinants of health, later stage cancer presentation, decreased health care access, decreased health literacy, and cultural barriers to prompt cancer care. Adding to these disparities is the historical inclusion of primarily well-insured Caucasian patients into cancer clinical trials leadin...
