Thymosin alpha 1 - Reimagine its broader applications in the immuno-oncology era
Int Immunopharmacol. 2023 Mar 3;117:109952. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2023.109952. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThymosin alpha 1 (Tα1) is a highly conserved 28 amino-acid peptide naturally occurring in the thymus and plays critical roles in T cell maturity and differentiation. Its synthetic form, thymalfasin, has been approved by various regulatory agencies in the treatment of hepatitis B viral infection and as an enhancer of vaccine response in immune-compromised populations. In China, it has also widely utilized in patients with cancer and severe infections, as well as the emergency use during (Severe Acute Respiratory Syn...

Highlights into historical and current immune interventions for cancer
Int Immunopharmacol. 2023 Feb 27;117:109882. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2023.109882. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTImmunotherapy is an additional pillar when combined with traditional standards of care such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery for cancer patients. It has revolutionized cancer treatment and rejuvenated the field of tumor immunology. Several types of immunotherapies, including adoptive cellular therapy (ACT) and checkpoint inhibitors (CPIs), can induce durable clinical responses. However, their efficacies vary, and only subsets of cancer patients benefit from their use. In this review, we address three goal...

Fight Aging! Newsletter, February 13th 2023
This study investigated whether taller Polish adults live longer than their shorter counterparts. Data on declared height were available from 848,860 individuals who died in the years 2004-2008 in Poland. To allow for the cohort effect, the Z-values were generated. Separately for both sexes, Pearson's r coefficients of correlation were calculated. Subsequently, one way ANOVA was performed. The correlation between adult height and longevity was negative and statistically significant in both men and women. After eliminating the effects of secular trends in height, the correlation was very weak (r = -0.0044 in men and ...
