DL-3-n-butylphthalide improves the endothelium-dependent vasodilation in high-fat diet-fed ApoE < sup > -/- < /sup > mice via suppressing inflammation, endothelial necroptosis and apoptosis
This study aims to explore whether NBP is able to improve endothelium-dependent vasodilation in atherosclerosis and the underlying mechanisms. Male ApoE-/- mice were fed with a high-fat diet (HFD) for 9-16 weeks to establish a model of atherosclerosis. NBP were given to the mice after eating HFD for 6 weeks and atorvastatin served as a positive control. The endothelium-dependent vasodilation, the blood flow velocity, the atherosclerotic lesion area, the serum levels of lipids, inflammatory cytokines and necroptosis-relevant proteins (RIPK1, RIPK3 and MLKL), and the endothelial necroptosis and apoptosis within the aorta wer...

Limb and cardiovascular event risk in type 1 and 2 diabetic patients with peripheral artery disease
Conclusions: PAD patients with T1DM had a higher LE risk than those with T2DM, even after adjustment for glycemic control and pertinent risk factors, but CVE risk and all-cause mortality were equivocal. These data suggest a potential role for more intensive LE risk modification in PAD patients with T1DM, but further investigation is needed.PMID:37519117 | DOI:10.1024/0301-1526/a001086

E-107 Carotid artery stenting in patients with symptomatic non-stenotic carotid artery disease - a case series
ConclusionsIn this case series performed over a 10-year period at a high-volume stroke center we show that CAS is safe and efficient in patients with SyNC. Previous studies have established safety and effectiveness of CES in patients presenting with SyNC, however there is a paucity of reports in the literature regarding the effect of CAS in this patient population. Recent guidelines have brought specific attention to high-risk plaque characteristics which suggest that plaque instability plays a major role in the onset of ischemic events, regardless of lumen narrowing. Advanced imaging techniques, such as Optical Coherence ...

E-113 Lower low-density lipoprotein level increases the risk of delayed parenchymal hematoma following endovascular thrombectomy
ConclusionLDL level <50 mg/dL independently predicted delayed PH following thrombectomy and LDL >100 was shown to be a protective factor, irrespective of statin use. Further study is needed to explore the underlying mechanism and identify the strategies to prevent post-thrombectomy delayed PH among patients with low LDL levels.Disclosures S. Ahn: None. S. Protective Effects of Different Classes, Intensity, Cumulative Dose-Dependent of Statins Against Primary Ischemic Stroke in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Curr Atheroscler Rep. 2023 Jul 29. doi: 10.1007/s11883-023-01135-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE OF REVIEW: The aim of this study is to investigate the protective effects of different statin classes, intensity, and cumulative dose-dependent against primary ischemic stroke in patients with T2DM.RECENT FINDINGS: The Cox hazards model was used to evaluate statin use on primary ischemic stroke. Case group: T2DM patients who received statins; control group: T2DM patients who received no statins during the follow-up. Adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) for primary ischemic stroke was 0.45 (95% CI: 0.44 to 0.46). Cox regression ...

One Pill for Everyone? Twenty Years of Polypill for Cardiovascular Disease
The concept of the polypill was first proposed in 2003 as a strategy to reduce cardiovascular risk by combining multiple therapeutic agents into a single daily pill. Wald and Law estimated that a combination of a statin, thiazide diuretic, β blocker, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, folic acid, and aspirin could reduce ischemic heart disease events and stroke by 88% and 80%, respectively.1 Because rates of cardiovascular disease (CVD) remain high worldwide, the polypill or fixed dose combination strategy is viewed as a potential method to reduce barriers to adequate medical care.

Residual Coronary Risk Factors Associated With Long-Term Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease Treated With High- vs. Low-Dose Statin Therapy - REAL-CAD Substudy
CONCLUSIONS: Regarding nonlipid prognostic factors contributing to the incidence of cardiovascular events in statin-treated CAD patients, renal dysfunction was the most significant, followed by poor glucose control and high SBP.PMID:37482412 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-23-0134
