Position of the Polish Cardiac Society on therapeutic targets for LDL cholesterol concentrations in secondary prevention of myocardial infarctions
Kardiol Pol. 2023 Jul 25. doi: 10.33963/KP.a2023.0162. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular diseases account for 43% of deaths in Poland. The COVID-19 pandemic increased the number of cardiovascular deaths by as much as 16.7%. Lipid metabolism disorders are observed in about 20 million Poles. Lipid disorders are usually asymptomatic, they cause a significant increase in the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Up to 20% of patients who experience an acute coronary syndrome (ACS) may experience a recurrence of a cardiovascular event within a year, and up to 40% of these patients may be re-hospitalized. Within 5 years af...

Residual Coronary Risk Factors Associated With Long-Term Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease Treated With High- vs. Low-Dose Statin Therapy - REAL-CAD Substudy
CONCLUSIONS: Regarding nonlipid prognostic factors contributing to the incidence of cardiovascular events in statin-treated CAD patients, renal dysfunction was the most significant, followed by poor glucose control and high SBP.PMID:37482412 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-23-0134

Atherosclerosis on CT coronary angiography and risk of long-term cardiovascular events post liver transplantation
CONCLUSION: The standardized CAD-RADS classification on CTCA predicted the occurrence of cardiovascular outcomes following LT, with a potential to increase utilization of preventive cardiovascular therapies.PMID:37432891 | DOI:10.1097/LVT.0000000000000215

Ultrasound examination of the carotid artery for improved prediction of cardiovascular events and the effect of statin treatment in advanced atherosclerosis : An observational study
CONCLUSION: The prediction of cardiovascular events was better with plaque burden measurements than with the PROCAM score. Treatment with statins in subjects with advanced carotid atherosclerosis (types III-IV b findings on ultrasound) significantly improved the prognosis in a nonrandomized observational study.PMID:37402837 | DOI:10.1007/s00059-023-05197-z

More Than 50 Percent Reduction in LDL Cholesterol in Patients With Target LDL & lt;70 mg/dL After a Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: In this post hoc analysis of the TST trial, targeting an LDL cholesterol of <70 mg/dL reduced the risk of primary outcome compared with 100±10 mg/dL provided LDL cholesterol reduction from baseline was superior to 50%, thereby suggesting that the magnitude of LDL cholesterol reduction was as important to consider as the target level to achieve.REGISTRATION: URL: https://www.CLINICALTRIALS: gov; Unique identifier: NCT01252875; https://clinicaltrialsregister.eu; Unique identifier: EUDRACT2009-A01280-57.PMID:37376989 | DOI:10.1161/STROKEAHA.123.042621
