Cardiovascular and renal outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation and stage 4 โ€“5 chronic kidney disease receiving direct oral anticoagulants: a multicenter retrospective cohort study
AbstractThe role of direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and stage 4 โ€“5 chronic kidney disease (CKD) is controversial. Electronic medical records from 2012 to 2021 were retrieved for patients with AF and stage 4โ€“5 CKD receiving oral anticoagulants. Patients were separated into those receiving DOACs (dabigatran, rivaroxaban, apixaban, or edoxaban) or vitamin K ant agonists (VKA). Primary outcomes included ischemic stroke (IS), systemic thrombosis (SE), major bleeding, gastrointestinal bleeding, hemorrhagic stroke, acute myocardial infarction, cardiovascular death, and all-cause dea...

Global Economic Burden Associated with Chronic Kidney Disease: A Pragmatic Review of Medical Costs for the Inside CKD Research Programme
CONCLUSION: Globally, CKD carries a significant economic burden, which increases substantially with increasing disease severity. We identified significant gaps in published costs and inconsistent costing definitions. Cost-effective interventions that target primary prevention and disease progression are essential to reduce CKD burden. Our results can be used to guide cost collection and facilitate better comparisons across countries/regions to inform healthcare policy.PMID:37493856 | DOI:10.1007/s12325-023-02608-9

Incidence of Thromboembolic Complications Following Kidney Transplantation with Short and Extended Aspirin Prophylaxis: A Retrospective Single-Center Study
CONCLUSIONS Extended-duration aspirin use did not significantly reduce the incidence of VTE in the first 6 weeks following kidney transplantation. An association was identified between anti-human thymocyte immunoglobulin and VTE, which requires further assessment.PMID:37309097 | DOI:10.12659/AOT.939143

Association of intradialytic hypertension with future cardiovascular events and mortality in hemodialysis patients: effects of ambulatory blood pressure
CONCLUSIONS: IDHTN patients had higher risk for mortality and cardiovascular outcomes but this risk is at least partly confounded by the elevated BP levels during the interdialytic period.PMID:37302385 | DOI:10.1159/000531477

Clinical outcomes of different revascularization approaches for patients with multi-vessel coronary artery disease: A network meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: ONCABG shows a better rank probability compared to all other techniques for preventing TVR, while RCAB offers greater freedom from most postoperative complications. However, given the absence of randomized controlled trials, these results should be interpreted with caution.PMID:37294619 | DOI:10.1177/02676591231182585
