Left thoracotomy vs full sternotomy for centrifugal durable LVAD implantation: 1-year outcome comparison post-LVAD and post-heart transplantation
This study sought to compare the outcomes of FS and LT patients post-primary LVAD implantation and post-subsequent heart transplant (HT). Mental health and demographic correlates of loneliness after left ventricular assist device implantation
This study used a cross-sectional survey design on a convenience sample of LVAD patients (n = 73). Logistic regression was used to identify demographic correlates of loneliness; linear regression was used to examine the relationship between loneliness and both stress and depression. Loneliness was measured via the loneliness item from the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CESD), depression via the CESD (excluding the loneliness item), and stress via the Perceived Stress Scale. Outpatient Cardiac Palliative Care Reduces Healthcare Utilization
The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association have put forth statement recommending early and continuous access to palliative care for patients with heart disease. There is a national shortage of palliative care providers, and often outpatient palliative care clinics are not profitable to institutions with billing alone. However, early integration of palliative care has been proven to improve the quality of life of patients with advanced heart failure. Other studies have suggested that general palliative care has cost savings to hospital systems.

Safety and efficacy of a simple cardiotomy suction system as a blood salvage procedure during off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery
AbstractThe ideal blood-salvaging strategies for off-pump coronary artery bypass graft procedures have not been determined. We developed a new blood-salvaging system that uses a cardiotomy suction. The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of this novel method. This was a retrospective study involving 50 consecutive patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting.
