CHARGE-AF: A useful score for atrial fibrillation prediction?
Curr Cardiol Rev. 2022 Sep 1. doi: 10.2174/1573403X18666220901102557. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtrial fibrillation (AF) is the commonest arrhythmia in clinical practice and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Various predictive scores for new-onset AF have been proposed, but so far none has been widely used in clinical practice. CHARGE-AF score was developed from a pooled diverse population from three large cohorts (Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities study, Cardiovascular Health Study and Framingham Heart Study). A simple 5-year predictive model includes the variables of age, race, height, weight, s...

Outcomes of catheter ablation versus antiarrhythmic therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsIn this study of pooled data from 16 RCTs, CA utilization for atrial fibrillation had improved freedom from arrhythmia as well as reduced all-cause readmission compared with AAD.

How is atrial fibrillation detected in everyday healthcare? Results of a  Dutch cohort study
CONCLUSION: Diagnosing AF is a multidisciplinary process. The irregular heartbeat was most often detected by the GP, but cardiologists diagnosed most cases. One-third of all newly diagnosed AF was silent.PMID:36048351 | DOI:10.1007/s12471-022-01719-2

Sex-specific differences in adverse outcome events among patients with atrial fibrillation
Conclusion In this large study of patients with established AF, women had a lower risk of death than men, but there were no sex-specific differences in other adverse outcomes.

Stroke Epidemiology and Incidence in Regional Queensland: Findings of the Regional Queensland Stroke (REQUEST) Study
CONCLUSIONS: Incidence of stroke in a regional Queensland population is similar to other regional populations and when compared with larger cities. Despite a global trend in stroke reduction, modifiable risk factors like hypertension and atrial arrhythmias continue to be over-represented in the stroke population. All-cause mortality after stroke is high especially during the initial period. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.PMID:36001407 | DOI:10.1111/imj.15917

A new scoring system: PAT2C2H score. Its clinical use and comparison with HATCH and CHA2DS2-VASc scores in predicting arrhythmia recurrence after cryoballoon ablation of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsThe PAT2C2H score may help to identify patients who are likely benefited most from CB ablation of paroxysmal AF and who should be monitored more closely for arrhythmia recurrence at 12  months.
