Noncardiac comorbidities and intensive up ‐titration of oral treatment in patients recently hospitalized for heart failure: insights from the STRONG‐HF trial

Impact of comorbidities on health status measured using the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire in patients with HFrEF and HFpEF
ConclusionsCardiac and non-cardiac comorbidities are common in both HFrEF and HFpEF patients and most are associated with reductions in health status although the impact varied among comorbidities, by the number of comorbidities, and by HF phenotype. Investigation of Combined Carotid Endarterectomy and Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Outcomes and Adverse Event Risk Factors in the Vascular Quality Initiative
CONCLUSIONS: Combined CEA and CABG provides excellent long-term mortality prevention in patients with co-existing severe coronary and carotid atherosclerosis. Simultaneous CEA and CABG provides equivalent stroke prevention and long-term survival to both a cohort of patients undergoing coronary revascularization within 5 years of CEA and patients undergoing isolated CEA or CABG in the literature. The two most impactful modifiable risk factors towards long-term stroke and mortality prevention for patients undergoing simultaneous CEA-CABG are patch placement at CEA site and adherence to statin medication therapy.PMID:37303074...

Impact of multimorbidity on mortality in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction: which comorbidities matter most? An analysis of PARADIGM ‐HF and ATMOSPHERE
ConclusionsIn HF, the impact of multimorbidity differed at the individual patient and population level, depending on the prevalence of and the risk related to each comorbidity, and the interaction between individual comorbidities. Patients with coexistent PAD and stroke were at greatest individual risk whereas, from a population perspective, coexistent CKD and hypertension mattered most.

Long ‐term outcomes in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction: Predictors of cardiac and non‐cardiac mortality
ConclusionsIn patients with acute decompensated HFpEF, over 5 years of follow-up, nearly of patients died, half from CV and the other half from non-CV causes. CAD and tricuspid regurgitation were associated with CV death. Stroke, kidney disease, lower BMI, and lower sodium were associated with non-CV death. Anaemia and higher age were associated with both ou tcomes.

Combined use of the GRACE ACS risk score and comorbidity indices to increase the effectiveness of hospital mortality risk assessment in patients with acute coronary syndrome
CONCLUSION: CCI and its own comorbidity model, but not CDS and CIRS, are associated with the risk of hospital mortality.
