Endothelial Cell-Derived von Willebrand Factor Is the Major Determinant That Mediates von Willebrand Factor-Dependent Acute Ischemic Stroke by Promoting Postischemic Thrombo-Inflammation.
CONCLUSIONS: Plt-VWF, either in presence or absence of ADAMTS13, partially contributes to VWF-dependent injury and postischemic thrombo-inflammation after stroke. EC-VWF is the major determinant that mediates VWF-dependent ischemic stroke by promoting postischemic thrombo-inflammation.

Off-Hour Admission and Mortality Risk for 28 Specific Diseases: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of 251 Cohorts Epidemiology
Conclusions
Off-hour admission is associated with increased mortality risk, and the associations varied substantially for different diseases. Specialists, nurses, as well as hospital administrators and health policymakers can take these findings into consideration to improve the quality and continuity of medical services.

Tumor necrosis factor-{alpha} inhibition attenuates middle cerebral artery remodeling but increases cerebral ischemic damage in hypertensive rats
Hypertension causes vascular inflammation evidenced by an increase in perivascular macrophages and proinflammatory cytokines in the arterial wall. Perivascular macrophage depletion reduced tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α expression in cerebral arteries of hypertensive rats and attenuated inward remodeling, suggesting that TNF-α might play a role in the remodeling process. We hypothesized that TNF-α inhibition would improve middle cerebral artery (MCA) structure and reduce damage after cerebral ischemia in hypertensive rats. Six-week-old male stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRSP) were treated ...

Childhood Infections and Trauma as Risk Factors for Stroke
Abstract
Stroke is as common as brain tumor in children. The etiology of childhood arterial ischemic stroke (AIS) appears to be multifactorial, resulting from the interaction between genetic predisposition and environmental triggers. The risk factors for AIS in children are markedly different from the atherosclerotic risk factors in adults. Trauma and infections have been identified as associations in previous studies and are exposures of particular interest because of their increased prevalence in the children. The aim of this review article is to provide an overview of the research studies that have addressed t...

Usefulness of a Combination of Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1, Galectin-3, and N-Terminal Probrain Natriuretic Peptide to Predict Cardiovascular Events in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease
Patients with coronary artery disease may develop not only ischemic events but also heart failure and death due to previous myocardial damage. The purpose of this study was to test the prognostic value of a panel of plasma biomarkers related to vascular (monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 [MCP-1] and soluble tumor necrosis factor–like weak inducer of apoptosis) and myocardial damage (galectin-3, N-terminal fragment of brain natriuretic peptide [NT-proBNP], and neutrophil gelatinase–associated lipocalin) in 706 patients with chronic coronary artery disease followed for 2.2 ± 0.99 years. Secondary outcomes were the inc...
