Admission Rates, Time Trends, Risk Factors, and Outcomes of Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Stroke From German Nationwide Data
DISCUSSION: Despite recent advances in acute stroke care over the last decade, the percentage of stroke hospitalizations resulting in death remained unchanged. Further research is needed to determine how best to optimize stroke care pathways for multimorbid patients.PMID:36332988 | DOI:10.1212/WNL.0000000000201259

Endovascular therapy for acute ischemic stroke in patients with active malignancy: a meta-analysis with trial sequential analysis
CONCLUSION: Although a quarter of patients with active malignancy and AIS regained functional independence, physicians and patients should consider whether to apply EVT in patients with active malignancy.PMID:36163348 | DOI:10.1136/jnis-2022-019489

Rare stroke mechanisms in 4154 consecutive patients: causes, predictors, treatment, and outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: RMS occurred in 5.3% of a large population of consecutive AISs and are most frequently related to medical interventions, cancer, and vasculitis. RMS patients have less traditional risk factors but more systemic comorbidities, hemorrhagic transformations, recurrences, and a worse long-term outcome. Identification of RMS has direct implications for early treatment and long-term outcome.PMID:35994133 | DOI:10.1007/s10072-022-06344-w

Incidence, early case fatality and determinants of stroke in Iran: Golestan Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: Efficient risk factor control can considerably reduce stroke occurrence and fatality in our study. Establishing awareness campaigns and 24-hour stroke units seem necessary for improving the stroke management in this area.PMID:35973398 | DOI:10.1016/j.jstrokecerebrovasdis.2022.106658

Impact of cancer diagnosis on distribution and trends of cardiovascular hospitalizations in the USA between 2004 to 2017
CONCLUSIONS: In contrast to declining trends in patients without cancer, primary cardiovascular admissions in patients with cancer is increasing. The highest admission rates are in patients with hematological cancer and the most common cause of admission is heart failure.PMID:35913736 | DOI:10.1093/ehjqcco/qcac045

The Gut Microbiota-Brain Axis in Acute Neurological Disease: Focus on Stroke
Rev Recent Clin Trials. 2022 Mar 21. doi: 10.2174/1574887117666220321155508. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe gut microbiota is one of the great innovations of modern medicine. In the modern microbiota revolution era, more comprehensive and in-depth studies have been performed as regards the microbial gut communities and their impact on acute and chronic diseases, including those of the nervous system as acute neurological diseases. The microbiota has changed our knowledge of medical conditions; in particular, considering stroke (both ischemic and hemorrhagic), literature studies, experimental and clinical researches indi...

Diagnostic accuracy of major stroke types in Chinese adults: A clinical adjudication study involving 40,000 stroke cases
Lancet Reg Health West Pac. 2022 Mar 5;21:100415. doi: 10.1016/j.lanwpc.2022.100415. eCollection 2022 Apr.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Widespread use of brain imaging in suspected stroke cases in Chinese adults has prompted the need for clinical adjudication studies of stroke types. We conducted a clinical adjudication study to assess the reporting and diagnostic accuracy of major stroke types.METHODS: The prospective China Kadoorie Biobank recruited >512,000 adults (mean age 52 years, 59% women) from 10 urban and rural areas in China during 2004-2008, and recorded 45,859 first-ever incident stroke cases during an 11-year follow...
