This study aimed to investigate the association between volume of surgery and mortality in relation to interventions for acute hemorrhagic stroke, namely craniotomy and trephination.

Epidemiology, risk factors and characteristics of pediatric stroke: a nationwide population-based study
Conclusions and implicationsInfants younger than 2 years, boys and children in lower socioeconomic status have a significantly higher risk of stroke. Hemorrhagic stroke has a significantly higher mortality rate than ischemic stroke. More than half of the children with stroke had underlying diseases and the causes of hemorrhagic stroke are signifi cantly different from ischemic stroke.

Higher stroke incidence in the patients with pancreatic cancer: A nation-based cohort study in Taiwan
No study has investigated the role of pancreatic cancer in the stroke risk using population data. We used claims data obtained from a universal health insurance program of Taiwan to evaluate the stroke risk in pancreatic cancer patients.

Risk of major comorbidities among workers with hemophilia: A 14-year population-based study
In this study, we investigated the incidence of comorbidities and their risk factors among workers with hemophilia.
The study compared the incidence and risk factors of the major comorbidities of 411 workers with hemophilia enrolled in Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database between 1997 and 2010 with an age- and sex-matched general population.

Housing and Food Insecurity, Care Access, and Health Status Among the Chronically Ill: An Analysis of the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System
ConclusionsChronic illness independently affects housing and food insecurity. In turn, food and housing anxiety leads to reduced access to care, likely due to cost concerns, and correlates with poorer health. A more complete understanding of the pathways by which chronic illness influences social determinants and clinical outcomes is needed.

Periodontal Treatment and the Risks of Cardiovascular Disease in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes: A Retrospective Cohort Study.
Conclusion Advanced periodontal therapy lowers the rate of CVD, especially myocardial infarction and heart failure. Dental management has a beneficial effect on the health of patients with type 2 diabetes.

New-onset atrial fibrillation-related ischemic stroke occurring after hospital discharge in septicemia survivors
Conclusion: The middle-aged and elderly septicemia survivors suffered from new-onset AF had increased incidence of IS within three months. New-onset AF was a mediator factor of IS in septicemia survivors of Asian population.

Pregnancy increases stroke risk up to 1 year postpartum and reduces long-term risk
Conclusion: The risk of stroke was elevated during the first year postpartum, but lower in subsequent years. Stroke risk increased in multiparous ( ≥3) women. Physicians should be on alert for pregnancy complications and ensure appropriate management to prevent postpartum stroke.

Different impact of aspirin on renal progression in patients with predialysis advanced chronic kidney disease with or without previous stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: There was no significant benefit in preventing ischemic stroke in the patients with advanced CKD who received aspirin therapy. Furthermore, the use of aspirin was associated with the risk of renal failure in the patients with advanced CKD without previous stroke.

Risk of sudden sensorineural hearing loss in stroke patients: A 5-year nationwide investigation of 44,460 patients
This study employed a nationwide population-based dataset to investigate the relationship between stroke and SSNHL.
The Taiwan Longitudinal Health Insurance Database was used to compile data from 11,115 stroke patients and a comparison cohort of 33,345 matched nonstroke enrollees.
