A systematic review of the efficacy and safety of anticoagulants in advanced chronic kidney disease
CONCLUSION: Further studies are still required, some ongoing, in patients with advanced CKD (CrCl < 30 ml/min) to identify the safest and most effective treatment options for VTE and AF.PMID:36006608 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-022-01413-x

N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide predicts hospitalization for ischemic stroke in Japanese hemodialysis patients
ConclusionsElevated NT-proBNP level was associated with hospitalization for ischemic stroke, suggesting that NT-proBNP level is a valid biomarker for predicting hospitalization for ischemic stroke in HD outpatients.

Medicare Bundled Payment Policy on Anemia Care, Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events, and Mortality among Adults Undergoing Hemodialysis
CONCLUSIONS: The Medicare reimbursement policy and Food and Drug Administration-recommended erythropoietin-stimulating agent dosing changes were associated with lower erythropoietin-stimulating agent use and lower hemoglobin levels. These changes in anemia care were associated with lower risks of major adverse cardiovascular event, stroke, mortality, and heart failure but higher risk of acute myocardial infarction among adults receiving hemodialysis.PMID:35589388 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.14361121

Utility of CHA2DS2-VASc Score to Predict Mid-Term Clinical Outcomes in Hemodialysis Patients
CONCLUSION: The CHA2DS2-VASc score is a valuable predictor of 3-year all-cause and CVD mortality in incident HD patients.PMID:35259747 | DOI:10.1159/000522225

Warfarin Use, Stroke, and Bleeding Risk among Pre-Existing Atrial Fibrillation US Veterans Transitioning to Dialysis
In this study, we validated risk scores for stroke and bleeding in this population and assessed risk of stroke and bleeding among warfarin users compared to nonusers. Methods: We utilized a cohort of 28,620 pre-dialysis US veterans transitioning to hemodialysis between October 2007 and March 2015. Incident rates for the risks of stroke and bleeding were ascertained based upon CHA2DS2-VASc or HAS-BLED scores, respectively. A propensity score-based competing risk analysis was used to assess risk of stroke and bleeding.Findings: The mean age of our cohort was 77 ± 9 years, and the median CHA2DS2-VASc and HAS-BLED scores were ...

Association of peridialytic, intradialytic, scheduled interdialytic and ambulatory BP recordings with cardiovascular events in hemodialysis patients
CONCLUSIONS: Averaged intradialytic and scheduled home BP measurements (but not pre-dialysis readings) display similar prognostic associations with 44-h ambulatory BP in hemodialysis patients and represent valid metrics for hypertension management in these individuals.PMID:34988941 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-021-01205-9

Prognostic factors for acute ischemic stroke in patients undergoing hemodialysis
ConclusionsAlong with neurological severity, dialysis vintage, intradialytic hypotension, and diabetic nephropathy could worsen the prognosis of patients with AIS undergoing hemodialysis.

Assessment of cognitive impairment and related risk factors in hemodialysis patients
CONCLUSION: Our study shows that the prevalence of cognitive impairment in hemodialysis patients is high and that it is affected by the presence of depression. Furthermore, education has an effect on cognitive test results. As depression has a significant influence on cognitive impairment, its early identification is essential in order to initiate treatment at an early stage, hoping to positively influence cognitive performance.PMID:34655416 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-021-01170-3
