Medicare Bundled Payment Policy on Anemia Care, Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events, and Mortality among Adults Undergoing Hemodialysis
CONCLUSIONS: The Medicare reimbursement policy and Food and Drug Administration-recommended erythropoietin-stimulating agent dosing changes were associated with lower erythropoietin-stimulating agent use and lower hemoglobin levels. These changes in anemia care were associated with lower risks of major adverse cardiovascular event, stroke, mortality, and heart failure but higher risk of acute myocardial infarction among adults receiving hemodialysis.PMID:35589388 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.14361121

Readmissions after Acute Kidney Injury during Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation Hospitalization.
CONCLUSION: AKI-D was associated with highest -30-day readmission risk, possibly related to negatively synergistic effects of LVAD, kidney dysfunction, and dialysis related factors on infection and GI bleeding risks. DISCUSSION: Mortality and cardiovascular disease burden have declined for dialysis patients in the United States despite an aging population that is increasingly hypertensive and diabetic. Comorbid disease burdens among HD and PD patients have diverged over time, with PD patients having fewer comorbid conditions.

Lipids, Apolipoproteins, and Risk of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease in Persons With CKD
ConclusionsHigher VLDL-C and Apo-B levels, as well as lower HDL-C and Apo-AI levels, are associated with increased risk for ASCVD. These findings support future investigations into pharmacologic targeting of lipoproteins beyond LDL-C, such as triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, to reduce residual risk for ASCVD among individuals with CKD.

Impact of testosterone replacement therapy on thromboembolism, heart disease, and obstructive sleep apnea in men
ConclusionsThis study adds to growing evidence that cardiovascular risk from TRT may be less than once feared. The increased risk of sleep apnea in men using TRT is noteworthy. The study strengths include the large number of healthy and young men exposed to TRT. Limitations include the retrospective study design inability to account for granular details of TRT use such as dosage, specific forms of TRT and serum testosterone levels pre‐ and post‐TRT.This article is protected by copyright. Warfarin Use And the Risk Of Stroke, Bleeding, And Mortality In Older Adults On Dialysis With Incident Atrial Fibrillation
ConclusionOlder ESRD patients with AF who were treated with warfarin had a no difference in stroke risk, lower mortality risk, but increased major bleeding risk. The bleeding risk associated with warfarin was greater among women than men. The risk/benefit ratio of warfarin may be less favorable among older women.
