UK HealthCare, partners receive prestigious CDC grant to improve stroke care in Kentucky
(University of Kentucky) UK HealthCare, UofL Health, the Kentucky Department for Public Health's Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program (KHDSP), and other state partners have been awarded the prestigious Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Program Grant by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This $1.8 million grant aims to optimize both stroke prevention among those at high risk as well as improve the care and outcomes for stroke patients throughout Kentucky.

Brain injury research to focus on moderate concussion
(University of California - Riverside) Viji Santhakumar at the University of California, Riverside, has received funding from the National Institute of Neurological Disaster and Stroke to further pursue research on moderate concussive brain injury, which results from car accidents or sports-related concussions. The more than $2.3 million five-year renewal grant will allow Santhakumar's lab to study how inflammatory responses after brain injury contribute to the creation of abnormally connected neurons, and whether this compromises critical memory processing functions.

Temple scientists poised to gain insight into underpinnings of Alzheimer's thanks to grant
(Temple University Health System) Thanks to a new three-year, $2.27 million grant from the National Institutes of Health's National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Dr. John Elrod and colleagues are poised to gain novel insight into biological mechanisms that may be driving or worsening neurodegeneration. The researchers will investigate potential mechanisms using mouse models of Alzheimer's disease and a systems biology approach. The work could help identify new drug targets and therapeutic opportunities for Alzheimer's disease.

UA receives $1.2 million NIH grant to use AI to restore movement in paralyzed limbs
