Treatment Patterns and Outcomes of Patients Receiving Direct Oral Anticoagulants or Low Molecular Weight Heparin who Experienced Life-threatening Intracranial Hemorrhage (P5.053)
Conclusions:This study provides a real-world picture of patients receiving FXa inhibitors or LMWH, experiencing life-threatening intracranial bleeds. Despite efforts to restore hemostasis, mortality remained high and substantial healthcare resources were expended. This highlights the need to develop specific strategies for management of ICH in this patient population.Study Supported by: Portola Pharmaceuticals, Inc.Disclosure: Dr. Milling has received personal compensation for activities with CSI Behring, Janssen, BI, and Portola. Impact of Birth Place and Geographic Location on Risk Disparities in Cerebrovascular Disease
The geographic disparities in stroke and cerebrovascular disease have long been recognized with high-risk areas, such as the states in the Southeast with the greatest risk and identified as the Stroke Belt. These epidemiologic observations have facilitated the identification of risk factors associated with the excess disease burden as well as the benefits of interventions focused on disease control. The geographic disparities in stroke risks prompted specific investigations and conferences to determine the factors associated with the excess risk burden for specific geographic areas, such as the southeastern United States, ...

Hands-Free Human-Computer Interface Based on Facial Myoelectric Pattern Recognition
Conclusion A facial movement-machine interface was developed in this study in order to help users with limited hand function manipulate electronic devices. Facial movements were detected using four EMG sensors, and five movement patterns were classified using myoelectric pattern recognition algorithms. The results from 10 able-bodied subjects show that facial movements can be detected and classified at high accuracies. The pattern-based continuous mapping between facial movements and cursor actions achieved high performance in both a typing task and a drawing task. Ethics Statement This study was approved by the Committ...

Korean Model for Post-acute Comprehensive rehabilitation (KOMPACT): The Study Protocol for a Pragmatic Multicenter Randomized Controlled Study on Early Supported Discharge
This study intends to examine the feasibility of ESD in Korea. Methods and Analysis: This study is designed as a multicenter assessor-blinded, randomized controlled trial. Ninety post-acute stroke patients with mild to moderate disability (modified Rankin Scale 1–3) will be recruited from three university hospitals (30 patients per hospital) in Korea and allocated to either the ESD group or the CR group in a 1:1 ratio. Patients in the ESD group will receive individualized discharge planning and goal setting, a 4-week home-based rehabilitation program, and liaison service to community-based resources by a multidisciplinary...

Can Patient or Arterial Characteristics Guide the Choice between Carotid Angioplasty and Carotid Endarterectomy? The Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy Versus Stenting Trial (CREST) (P01.225)
CONCLUSIONS: Beyond the previously described differential treatment efficacy by age, there were no other patient or arterial characteristic detected to identify patient subgroups that would differentially benefit from the choice of CAS versus CEA. Our inability to identify factors to guide treatment choices could be due to the low number of stroke and death events, incomplete information regarding arterial characteristics in the CEA population, or the potential exclusion of "high risk" groups (such as those with severe arterial tortuosity) from the study.Disclosure: Dr. Moore has nothing to disclose. Dr. Roubin has receive...
