Guideline on carotid surgery for stroke prevention: updates from the Italian Society of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. A trend towards personalized medicine
CONCLUSIONS: This GL updates on the main recommendations for the most appropriate diagnostic and medical-surgical management of patients with atherosclerotic carotid artery stenosis to prevent ischemic stroke. This GL also provides useful elements for the application of PM in good clinical practice.PMID:35848869 | DOI:10.23736/S0021-9509.22.12368-2

Could gender impact on immediate and long-term carotid artery stenting outcome? insight from an italian single center experience
Carotid artery stenting (CAS) has become a valid alternative to carotid endarterectomy in stroke prevention. However, female gender is still considered as an independent risk factor for CAS procedures, potentially limiting immediate and long-term benefits. Aim of present study was to evaluate gender differences in CAS submitted patients from an Italian high-volume center.

Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis Is Associated With Circadian and Other Variability in Embolus Detection
Conclusions: Embolism associated with asymptomatic carotid stenosis shows circadian variation with highest rates 4–6 h before midday. This corresponds with peak circadian incidence of stroke and other vascular complications. These and ASED Study results show that monitoring frequency, duration, and time of day are important in ES detection. Introduction Transcranial Doppler (TCD) detected microembolism in the ipsilateral middle cerebral artery (MCA) may help stratify the risk of stroke and other arterial disease complications in persons with advanced (≥60%) asymptomatic carotid stenosis. If so, this t...

An update on Italian Stroke Organization guidelines on carotid endarterectomy and stenting
One hundred and fifty‐three authors, 45 Italian scientific societies, and two Italian patients’ associations participated in drafting the Italian Stroke Organization document, which has become the national guideline for the prevention and treatment of stroke in Italy. For the surgical therapy section of the Italian Stroke Organization document, the main trials on carotid endoarterectomy and stenting were critically reviewed in order to formulate recommendations for these procedures. Recommendations are presented here for the referral of patients to either carotid endarterectomy or stenting on the basis of whether carot...
