Current management of post-varicella stroke in children: A literature review.
Abstract Among infectious factors, varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is a leading cause of central nervous system vasculopathy and stroke in childhood. Not only have viral markers been detected in the cerebrospinal fluid of affected patients, but also direct evidence of viral particles in the wall of cerebral arteries has been demonstrated in rare pathological specimens. This certainly reflects a localized infectious process likely associated with variable indirect inflammatory responses. Yet the usefulness in this setting of a lumbar puncture as well as of subsequent targeted antiviral and/or anti-inflammatory therapi...

Yield of Cather Angiography After Computed Tomography Negative, Lumbar Puncture Positive Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Brief Reports
Conclusions— Catheter angiography should be performed in patients with computed tomography negative but suspicious lumbar puncture, particularly in the presence of xanthochromia. The benefit of angiography in patients with erythrocytosis only is unclear and deserves future study.

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension associated with iron-deficiency anaemia
A 12-year-old Nigerian girl presented to the Emergency Department with headache, dizziness and diplopia. She had a history of menorrhagia. Mild dyspnoea, tachycardia, left sixth cranial nerve palsy and papilloedema (figures 1 and 2) were noted. Body mass index was normal. Full blood count revealed haemoglobin of 4.8 g/dl. The red cells were hypochromic and mircocytic. A CT scan of the brain with venous contrast was normal. A lumbar puncture showed opening and closing pressures of 35 and 33.5 cm H2O, respectively. The diagnosis of idiopathic intracranial hypertension secondary to iron-deficiency anaemia was made. ...

Effects of Intravenous Solanezumab 400 mg q 4 Weeks vs. Placebo on Biomarkers in Patients with Mild to Moderate Alzheimer's Disease: Results of Two Phase 3 Studies (P01.011)
CONCLUSIONS: Solanezumab target engagement is associated with alteration of amyloid biology. There was a lack of apparent effect on markers of neurodegeneration. The overall findings lend support for the amyloid cascade hypothesis and suggest that various aspects of the cascade are viable targets for treatment of Alzheimer's disease.Supported by: Eli Lilly and Co.Disclosure: Dr. Hake has received personal compensation for activities with Eli Lilly and Company as an employee. A Case Report of Dihydroergotamine Administration for Status Migrainosus in a Patient on Longstanding Citalopram Causing a Fatal Reversible Cerebral Vasoconstriction Syndrome (RCVS) (P02.027)
CONCLUSIONS: We report this case report of fatal RCVS of a patient on long standing citalopram who developed this after being administered Dihydroergotamine for status migrainosus. As this is thought to be a self-limiting in terms of clinical features. However, some patients may have more severe focal neurologic symptoms and signs, including ischemic or hemorrhagic strokes as described in our patient.Disclosure: Dr. Asi has nothing to disclose. Dr. Gomes has nothing to disclose. Dr. Dani has nothing to disclose.

Cerebrospinal fluid ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase as a novel marker of neuronal damage after epileptic seizure
Summary: Background: Ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase (UCH-L1) has been established as a reliable and potential biomarker of neuronal damage after acute neurologic insults such as ischemic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and traumatic brain injury. The effects of seizures on UCH-L1 levels in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) has not been investigated in epileptic patients. The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether CSF UCH-L1 levels are a reliable marker of brain damage from epileptic seizures. Methods: Thirty-three patients with epilepsy (mean age 45 years) participated. Twenty-five patients had generalized seizures...
