Center-Level Variation in Failure to Rescue Following Elective Adult Cardiac Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: The present findings affirm prior work demonstrating a close link between variation in FTR and mortality, but not complications. Further study is necessary to delineate modifiable care pathways that mitigate FTR.PMID:37031769 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2023.03.034

Mastering the Learning Curve for Robotic-Assisted Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Robotic-assisted CABG can be performed safely with excellent results even during a surgeon's early experience. However, the learning curve to achieve mastery is longer than required to achieve competency with a threshold of approximately 250-500 cases.PMID:36848999 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2023.02.045

Long-term Outcomes of Concomitant Surgical Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: Concomitant atrial fibrillation ablation during cardiac surgery is safe, does not increase the rate of perioperative complications, and confers the benefit of long-term survival after cardiac surgery in adults. Atrial fibrillation ablation also improved cardiac surgery patients' long-term survival compared with the matched general atrial fibrillation population.PMID:36216085 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.09.036

Intensive Care Unit Bypass for Robotic-Assisted Single-Vessel Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
CONCLUSIONS: A selective, successful ultra-fast-track ICU-bypass protocol for robotic-assisted coronary artery bypass grafting reduces inpatient cost without affecting short-term outcomes. Conversion-to-ICU recovery also maintains outcomes and trends towards reduced costs.PMID:35870521 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.06.044

Deep sternal wound infection and mortality in cardiac surgery: A meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: When compared to patients who did not develop DSWI, patients with DSWI after cardiac surgery had increased risk of mortality as well as short- and long-term adverse clinical outcomes.PMID:35618048 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.04.054
