Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation Following Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Predicts Long-Term Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: POAF is a common complication of CABG surgery, which is correlated with late AF and stroke. Patients with POAF should be closely monitored to facilitate early administration of anticoagulant therapy in a high risk population upon recurrence of AF.

Comparison of Levosimendan versus Dobutamine in Patients with Moderate to Severe Left Ventricular Dysfunction Undergoing Off-pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: A Randomized Prospective Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Levosimendan was associated with statistically significant increase in indices of contractility (CI, LVSWI, and RVSWI) and decrease in PCWP during and after OPCAB. Levosimendan group had lower incidence of atrial fibrillation, shorter length of ICU, and hospital stay.

Should We Ablate Atrial Fibrillation During Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting and Aortic Valve Replacement?
Conclusions Concomitant AF ablation in patients with AF undergoing CABG or AVR or both does not increase perioperative rates of mortality or morbidity. Moreover, concomitant AF ablation is effective at reducing postoperative AF burden and increases mid-term AF-free survival.

Mid-Term Follow-up of Minimally Invasive Multivessel Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: Is the Early Learning Phase Detrimental?
Conclusions: Minimally invasive coronary artery bypass grafting can be safely initiated as a minimally invasive, multivessel alternative to open surgical coronary revascularization, with excellent mid-term results. Learning phase effects were not observed with regard to overall procedural safety, but rather in terms of improved freedom from conversion to sternotomy and from repeat revascularization.

The increased risk of stroke/transient ischemic attack in women with a cardiac implantable electronic device is not associated with a higher atrial fibrillation burden
ConclusionsAmong patients implanted with a CIED, an AF burden of at least 5 min is a common finding, (44% of patients). Statin therapy in the prevention of atrial fibrillation in the early postoperative period after coronary artery bypass grafting: A meta-analysis
Conclusion The results of our meta-analysis leave no doubt in the presence of anti-inflammatory and anti-arrhythmic effect of statin therapy. We confirmed the overall positive role of using statins before CABG for POAF prevention.

Atrial fibrillation following aortic valve replacement: impact of perioperative use of intravenous β-blocker
ConclusionsPOAF frequently occurred in patients undergoing AVR, and was significantly related to prolonged ICU stay and postoperative stroke. Our findings show that advanced age and absence of preoperative β-blocker usage are risk factors for POAF. Furthermore, in patients undergoing AVR, perioperative intravenous β-blocker administration may be useful for prevention.

Predictors of Atrial Fibrillation After Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: A Bayesian Analysis
Conclusions This prospective Bayesian analysis identified five independent preoperative predictors of POAF after isolated CABG with cardiopulmonary bypass: CHA2DS2-VASc score, severe obesity, preoperative β-blocker use, preoperative antiplatelet therapy, and renal failure. The main interest in the CHA2DS2-VASc score as a predictor of POAF is that it is a simple and widely used bedside tool. Patients with these independent predictors of POAF may constitute a target population to test preventive strategies, such as non-antiarrhythmic and antiarrhythmic drugs.

Impact of Left Atrial Appendage Closure During Cardiac Surgery on the Occurrence of Early Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation, Stroke, and Mortality: A Propensity Score Matched Analysis of 10,633 Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: -After adjustment for treatment allocation bias, LAA closure during routine cardiac surgery was significantly associated with an increased risk of early POAF, but did not influence the risk of stroke or mortality. It remains uncertain whether prophylactic exclusion of the LAA is warranted for stroke prevention during non-AF-related cardiac surgery.
