Reliability and validity of Six-Spot Step Test (SSST) in stroke survivors
CONCLUSIONS: The SSST was a reliable test and showed a significant correlation with FMA-LE scores, BBS scores, and TUG test times in stroke survivors.CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT: The SSST can be used to assess the advanced balance control of stroke survivors.PMID:34128605 | DOI:10.23736/S1973-9087.21.06799-X

A Hybrid Approach for Sub-Acute Ischemic Stroke Lesion Segmentation Using Random Decision Forest and Gravitational Search Algorithm.
CONCLUSION: This paper provides a new hybrid GSA-RDF classifier technique to segment the ischemic stroke lesions in MR images. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed technique has the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE), and Mean Bias Error (MBE) ranges are 16.5485 %, 7.2654 %, and 2.4585 %individually. The proposed RDF-GSA algorithm has better precision and execution when compared with the existing ischemic stroke segmentation method. PMID: 31975663 [PubMed - in process]

Interleukin-17 and ischemic stroke.
Abstract Interleukin-17 (IL-17) is a cytokine family that includes 6 members, IL-17A through IL-17F, most of them are reported to have pro-inflammatory role. Through binding to their receptors (IL-17Rs), IL-17 activates the intracellular signaling pathways to play an important role in autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and multiple sclerosis (MS). Ischemic stroke is a complex pathophysiological process mainly caused by regional cerebral ischemia. Inflammatory factors contribute to the physiological process of stroke that leads to poor prognosis. IL-17 plays a crucial role in promoting inflamm...

Natalizumab: a new therapy for acute ischemic stroke?
This article reviews the main experimental studies on the blockage of CD49d and identifies the potential underlying causes for their inconclusive results. Despite these divergences and the difficulties in translation of experimental studies, a phase II clinical trial has recently been conducted to evaluate the efficacy of Natalizumab in stroke patients (ACTION trial). Preliminary results of the trial are also discussed here, together with a general overview of the emerged importance of the neuroprotective strategies based on the mitigation of post-stroke neuroinflammation. Expert commentary: Despite Natalizumab showing pos...

Affective Disorder and Functional Status as well as Selected Sociodemographic Characteristics in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease and History of Stroke.
Conclusions: Although depression and anxiety are highly prevalent in patients with neurological conditions, the disorder has a very individual nature and is not associated with the patient's age, duration of a condition or concomitant diseases. Screening for depression and anxiety as a part of comprehensive approach may increase treatment efficacy in neurological patients. PMID: 32156038 [PubMed - in process]
