Stroke-Like Presentation of Paraneoplastic Cerebellar Degeneration: a Single-Center Experience and Review of the Literature.
We report herein incidence and clinical features of hyperacute onset PCD, a vertebrobasilar stroke mimic. We performed a retrospective analysis of all suspected PCD cases referred to the Udine University Hospital between 2009 and 2017. Conclusion Neurological involvement is a common complication of PSV (Table 1), and neurologists play an important role in the identification and diagnosis of PSV patients with otherwise unexplained neurological symptoms as their chief complaint. The urgent neurological consultation in the population of the province of Ferrara, Italy
AbstractIn the province of Ferrara, Italy, the urgent neurological consultation (UNC) cases in the population correspond to the resident outpatients who undergo a UNC in the ER of the university hospital of Ferrara (UHFe). Duplex Sonography of Vertebral Arteries for Evaluation of Patients with Acute Vertigo
We evaluated the role of vertebral artery extracranial color-coded duplex sonography (VAECCS) in predicting vertebrobasilar stroke in consecutive patients presenting to the emergency department with vertigo of suspected ischemic origin. The final diagnosis was established by a panel of experts consisting of an emergency physician, a neurologist, and an otoneurologist. Vertebrobasilar stroke was diagnosed when an acute brain ischemic lesion congruent with symptoms was detected by neuroimaging during the index visit or a stroke was diagnosed within a 3-mo period after emergency department presentation.
