Global and national burden of atherosclerosis from 1990 to 2019: trend analysis based on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019
CONCLUSIONS: From 1990 to 2019, there was an overall increasing trend in the global incidence of all three clinical manifestations of atherosclerosis. Between 1990 and 2019, both the mortality rate and DALYs for IHD and ischemic stroke declined across all age groups. Overall, the burden of atherosclerosis-related diseases has not significantly decreased and even shows signs of trending upward. These findings strongly suggest that despite some progress made, efforts to control atherosclerosis diseases globally need to be intensified.PMID:37677929 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002839

Correlation of neck circumference, coronary calcification severity and cardiovascular events in Chinese elderly patients with acute coronary syndromes
CONCLUSIONS: NC is closely associated with MetS and its components, coronary calcification and lesion degree, and MACEs. NC could be used as surrogate of CACS to predict the coronary condition and prognosis of elderly patients with ACS.PMID:37679211 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2023.117242

Disparities in ethnicity and metabolic disease burden in referrals to nephrology
CONCLUSION: A disproportionately large number of Malay patients are referred for kidney disease. These patients have higher metabolic disease burden, tend to miss appointments and are referred at lower eGFR. Reasons underpinning these associations should be identified to facilitate efforts for targeting this at-risk population, ensuring kidney health for all.PMID:37675684 | DOI:10.4103/singaporemedj.SMJ-2022-193
