Incidence of Stroke and Mortality in Chinese Patients with Sleep-Breathing Disorders: A Clinical Population-Based (CPB) Study.
CONCLUSIONS Age, sex, and the other existing disease(s) of patients with sleep-breathing disorders may be associated with stroke event(s). Also, stroke event(s) and comorbidities may be associated with mortality in this Chinese population. PMID: 31884509 [PubMed - in process]

Haematological Indices and Antioxidant Enzyme Activity in Ghanaian Stroke Patients
CONCLUSION: Haematological parameters such as WBC, lymphocyte, platelet levels, and red cell indices were significantly different in the stroke patients being studied. There was negative correlation between lymphocyte significantly with SOD activity and high oxidative stress in stroke patients compared with the control group. Lymphocytes and plateletcrit levels were also good predictors of the occurrence of stroke.PMID:35281592 | PMC:PMC8913147 | DOI:10.1155/2022/1203120

Impact of Tag Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) in CCL11 Gene on Risk of Subtypes of Ischemic Stroke in Xinjiang Han Populations.
CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrates that the CCL11 gene could play an important role in the pathogenesis of lacunar stroke and LAA stroke in the Han population of China. PMID: 28873081 [PubMed - in process]

Dose-Response Relationship Between Thrombin-Activatable Fibrinolysis Inhibitor (TAFI) and Stroke: A Chinese Case-Control Study.
CONCLUSIONS There was a definite correlation between TAFI levels and stroke in this Chinese population, and with the increase of TAFI levels, the relative risk of stroke or ischemic stroke first increased and then decreased. PMID: 28890533 [PubMed - in process]

The Association of Stage 1 Hypertension Defined by the 2017 ACC/AHA Guideline with Stroke and Its Subtypes among Elderly Chinese.
Conclusion: Among adults aged ≥60 years in rural China, stage 1 hypertension defined by 2017 American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association hypertension guideline was independently associated with the increased risk of all stroke and ischemic stroke, excluding hemorrhagic stroke. PMID: 32149103 [PubMed - in process]

Assessment of the Implementation of Critical Pathway in Stroke Patients: A 10-Year Follow-Up Study.
Conclusion: The implementation of CP allows for better application of evidence- and guideline-based key interventions and helps to provide early, comprehensive, organized, and more specialized care to stroke patients. Despite limited evidence, CP is still recommended as a means of promoting best practices in hospital care for stroke patients. PMID: 32190659 [PubMed - in process]

Associations between Aquaglyceroporin Gene Polymorphisms and Risk of Stroke among Patients with Hypertension.
Conclusions: This study suggests that SNPs rs2989924 and rs3758269 are associated with the risk of stroke among patients with hypertension, while there were no statistically significant associations between rs2542743, rs57139208, and rs16939881 and the risk of stroke being observed. Impact of cardiovascular disease on health care economic burden and resource utilization: a retrospective cohort study in adults in the United States with type 2 diabetes with or without stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral arterial disease
Conclusion: Having stroke, MI, or PAD was associated with increases in HCRU and costs in patients with T2DM. Although PAD was associated with smaller per patient increases in total healthcare costs than patients with T2DM + stroke/MI, the higher frequency of incident PAD may make it more costly than MI or stroke in a large population of patients with T2DM.PMID:36134459 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2022.2125259

A systematic review and meta-analysis of acute stroke unit care: What's beyond the statistical significance?
Conclusions: These findings demonstrate that a well-conducted meta-analysis can produce results that can be of value to policymakers but the choice of inclusion/exclusion criteria and outcomes in this context needs careful consideration. The financing of interventions such as stroke units that increase independency and reduce inpatient stays are worthwhile in a context of an ageing population with increasing care needs. One limitation of this study was the selection of trials published in only four languages: English, French, Dutch and German. This choice was pragmatic in the context of this study, where the objective was ...

Effects of a Stroke Primary Prevention Program on Risk Factors for At-Home Elderly.
CONCLUSIONS Based on the results of this study, participating in a stroke prevention program enabled at-risk elderly participants who lived at home in rural areas to perform health-promoting behaviors. This program may reduce the incidence of stroke by reducing risk factors and managing stroke precursor diseases. PMID: 26615035 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
