Incidence of Cardiovascular Disease After Atopic Dermatitis Development: A Nationwide, Population-Based Study
CONCLUSIONS: The current study found that adult patients newly diagnosed with AD were at significantly increased risk for subsequent CVDs, suggesting the need to consider early prevention strategies for CVDs targeting patients with AD.PMID:37021508 | PMC:PMC10079521 | DOI:10.4168/aair.2023.15.2.231

Pontine Infarction as a Complication of Basilar-Type Migraine Status Migrainosus (P01.093)
CONCLUSIONS: This patient presents a diagnostic dilemma, since her stroke symptoms were not part of her typical aura syndrome and therefore does not fulfill ICHD-2 criteria for migrainous infarction. These restrictions on what constitutes a bona fide migrainous infarction may improve specificity at the expense of sensitivity, potentially underestimating the role of migraine in stroke etiology.Disclosure: Dr. Vollbracht's family owns stock and/or stock options in Allergan, Inc. Vegetarians have 'poorer quality of life' study claims
Conclusion Despite the media headlines, the results from this Austrian cross sectional survey provide no proof that vegetarians are in poorer health than meat eaters. The study has simply compared a group of people with a “vegetarian” diet with three different groups of people following “carnivorous” diets on a range of different health and lifestyle measures to see if any differences are observed. The study has numerous limitations: The cross sectional study cannot prove cause and effect and that the dietary pattern is responsible for any of these self-reported differences. In fact it is possible the associat...

Is Intracranial Arterial Involvement A Subgroup of Neuro-Behcet Syndrome? (P5.035)
Conclusion:Neurological involvement in BS patients is generally due to venous inflammation. Intracranial arterial involvement in NBS is rare, but it should be kept in mind that it can occur during the course of the disease independent of other stroke risk factors.Disclosure: Dr. Zeydan has nothing to disclose. Spinning Out of Control: The Black Box of Basilar and Hemiplegic Migraine (P7.176)
CONCLUSIONS:In this retrospective study, triptans were used effectively with no subsequent vascular events for the abortive treatment of migraines with basilar and hemiplegic features. This data also suggests that beta blockers, tricyclic anti-depressants, anti-convulsants, and Botox injections have some efficacy in the treatment of migraines with basilar type and hemiplegic features.Disclosure: Dr. Krel has nothing to disclose. Abstract 385: The Impact of Aspirin Primary Prevention Treatment Guidelines: Temporal Trends in Aspirin Use for Primary vs Secondary Prevention, 2005-2013 Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusion: Secondary prevention ASA use in primary care settings remains high, but ASA use for primary prevention of cardiovascular events is low. Despite creation of national guidelines, aspirin use in the PP population is half the rate of ASA use for secondary prevention. Additional methods to safely and effectively disseminate this primary prevention aspirin use recommendation, targeting both the public and health care providers, are warranted.

10 Good Reasons To Get A Flu Shot
By Melaina Juntti for Men's Journal How many times have you heard you should get a flu shot? There's good reason for the hype: Over the past few years, the influenza vaccine has prevented millions of flu cases and tens of thousands of related hospitalizations, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Although an increasing number of people are getting vaccinated every year, more than half of American men still aren't doing it, for a variety of reasons, most of which aren't backed by science. "Men have this macho sense that if they do get the flu, they can tough it out," says William Schaffner, M.D., chair...

A Phase III randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to assess the efficacy and safety of abobotulinumtoxinA (Dysport(R)) in adults with upper limb spasticity (S28.001)
CONCLUSIONS: In this large-scale study, abobotulinumtoxinA improved muscle tone, spasticity and movement. Standardization of scales in this clinical study, particularly those less used (e.g. Tardieu) has the potential to improve the management of patients affected by spasticity after stroke/TBI. Get the flu vaccine, reduce your risk of death
Last year was a lousy year for the flu vaccine. Hospitalizations for flu hit a nine-year high, and the vaccine prevented flu in only 23% of all recipients, compared with 50% to 60% of recipients in prior years. Why does the flu vaccine work well in some winters and not others? The flu vaccine primes the immune system to attack two proteins on the surface of the influenza A virus, hemagglutinin (H) and neuraminidase (N). Different flu strains have different combinations of these proteins — for example, the strains targeted by recent flu vaccines are H3N2 and H1N1. Unfortunately, the influenza virus is microbiology’s ans...
