An investigation of upper extremity function, sleep quality, and functional independence in patients with poststroke shoulder pain: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: PSSP impairs upper extremity functions, which play an important role in activities of daily living, and reduces functional independence. These results suggest that it is important to evaluate shoulder pain and examine the factors affecting pain in the rehabilitation of patients with stroke.PMID:37651602 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2023.2253313

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 712: Perspectives of Motor Functional upper Extremity Recovery with the Use of Immersive Virtual Reality in Stroke Patients
ński Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability, including loss of hand manipulative skills. It constitutes a major limitation in independence and the ability to perform everyday tasks. Among the numerous accessible physiotherapeutic methods, it is becoming more common to apply Virtual Reality "VR”. The aim of this study was to establish whether immersive VR was worth considering as a form of physical therapy and the advisability of applying it in restoring post-stroke hand function impairment. A proprietary application Virtual Mirror Hand 1.0 was used in the research and its effectivenes...

Intra- and inter-rater reliability of the Italian Fugl-Meyer assessment of upper and lower extremity
CONCLUSIONS: The Italian version of the FMA showed to be a reliable instrument that can therefore be recommended for clinical and research purposes.Implications for rehabilitationThe FMA is the gold standard for assessing stroke patients' sensorimotor impairment worldwide. The Italian Fugl-Meyer Assessment of Upper Extremity (FMA-UE) and Lower Extremity (FMA-LE) is substantially reliable within and between two raters at the item, subtotal, and total score level in patients with sub-acute stroke. The use of FMA in the Italian context will provide an opportunity for international comparisons and research collaborations.PMID:36...

A systematic review on extracorporeal shock wave therapy and botulinum toxin for spasticity treatment: a comparison on efficacy
CONCLUSIONS: A beneficial effect on spasticity was found for both treatments: evidence showed that ESWT and BoNT-A can ameliorate spasticity considering parameters such as MAS, MTS, AROM, PROM, UE-FMA, VAS and SFS in post-stroke, multiple sclerosis, and cerebral palsy patients. Further research is required to strengthen the evidence, and more suitable study protocols are highly needed.PMID:35412036 | DOI:10.23736/S1973-9087.22.07136-2
