Neurologic emergencies can be difficult to diagnose and treat, and are devastating if missed. Stroke is still the number five cause of death in the United States, down from number three a few years ago, and is the leading cause of long-term serious disability. Nonconvulsive status epilepticus is a substantial problem in intensive care units. Traumatic brain injuries from head trauma are a leading cause of post-traumatic stress in many populations. Then we have spine injuries, headache, back pain, infections, and vision problems, which present to emergency departments on a daily basis.

Stroke-like manifestation of a spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma with spontaneous resolution: a case report
ConclusionsSEH, although uncommon, can be a mimic of stroke and it is important to avoid misdiagnosis as it is a time critical diagnosis, and administration of thrombolysis or antiplatelets can lead to unfavourable outcomes. Having a high clinical suspicion can help to guide us in the choice of imaging and interpretation of subtle signs to reach the correct diagnosis in a timely manner. Further research is required to better understand the factors that would favour a conservative approach as opposed to surgical treatment.

Association between troponin and outcome in patients with chest pain and rapid atrial fibrillation: a retrospective study of a single-center 10-year cohort
Conclusions In patients with RAF who complain of chest pain, increased troponin levels are related to adverse cardiovascular outcomes.

Patterns and predictors of emergency medical services utilisation by patients attending the emergency medicine department of a tertiary care hospital in India
Conclusion: There was underutilization of the EMS services. Majority of the ambulances were not adequately equipped/staffed to deliver prehospital interventions. Policies at national level are required to encourage EMS utilization by the public and urgent measures are needed to improve services provided by them.

Characteristics and Outcomes of Pediatric Patients With a Ventricular Assist Device Presenting to the Emergency Department
Conclusions Among subjects in a single outpatient pediatric VAD program presenting to the ED, the most common complaints were abdominal pain/vomiting, fever, and headache. The most common adverse events were major infection and right heart failure. Subjects had a high rate of ED utilization and hospital admission.

Sudden Death in High School Athletes: A Case Series Examining the Influence of Sickle Cell Trait
We present a case series of fatal ECAST in high school athletes aged 14 to 16 years. All 3 athletes experienced collapse during practice sessions with muscle pain or weakness. Upon evaluation at the hospital, the athletes had a significant metabolic acidosis that did not respond as expected to fluid resuscitation. Admitting diagnoses for the athletes included exertional heat stroke or dehydration. All 3 athletes had profound rhabdomyolysis leading to acute renal failure, worsening metabolic acidosis, and hyperkalemia. Recognizing Vaccine-Induced Immune Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia
CONCLUSIONS: Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia is a serious complication of vaccination that is not feasible to anticipate or prevent.
