Short-term stroke risk after emergency department treat-and-release headache visit
CONCLUSION: Approximately 1 in 700 patients discharged to home from the ED with a headache diagnosis had a stroke in the following month. Stroke risk was three to four times higher after an ED visit for headache compared to renal colic or back pain.PMID:36073865 | DOI:10.1111/head.14387

How to Lower Your Cholesterol Naturally
In the years following World War II, physicians in the U.S. and Europe noticed a surprising phenomenon: rates of heart attack and stroke fell dramatically in many places. Autopsies from this period also revealed reduced rates of atherosclerosis, which is a buildup of fatty arterial plaques that causes cardiovascular disease. At first, experts were perplexed. But as time passed, many concluded that wartime food deprivations and the forced shifts in people’s diets—namely, big reductions in the consumption of red meat and other animal products—contributed to the heart-health improvements. Later work, particu...

Identifying patient characteristics associated with the occurrence of post treatment non-serious adverse events after cervical spine manual therapy treatment in patients with neck pain
CONCLUSION: There is a significant difference in the occurrence of non-serious adverse events after mobilization compared to manipulation or a combination of manipulation and mobilization. Non-serious adverse events in manual therapy practice are common and are associated with smoking and the presence of comorbidity. In addition, women are more likely to report non-serious adverse events.PMID:36037878 | DOI:10.1016/j.apmr.2022.08.007

Spontaneous cervical epidural haematoma mimicking stroke: a  case report and literature review
Folia Neuropathol. 2022;60(2):261-265. doi: 10.5114/fn.2022.116940.ABSTRACTSpontaneous spinal epidural haematoma (SSEH) is a rare disease that requires emergency decompression or haematoma evacuation to prevent permanent neurological deficits. Hemiparesis is an extremely rare presentation of SSEH, commonly misdiagnosed as stroke. With the help of case studies and references, this paper comprehensively discusses the effective methods to distinguish SSEH from stroke and provides theoretical support and ideas for rapid and accurate identification of SSEH. Herein, we report on the case of a 51-year-old man with SSEH who presen...

Non-invasive brain stimulation in rehabilitation
Turk J Phys Med Rehabil. 2022 Mar 1;68(1):1-8. doi: 10.5606/tftrd.2022.10608. eCollection 2022 Mar.ABSTRACTNon-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) has been seen more common in rehabilitation settings. It can be used for the treatment of stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and multiple sclerosis, as well as for some diagnostic neurophysiological measurements. Two major modalities of NIBS are transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). As an add-on therapy to conventional rehabilitative treatments, the main goal of NIBS is to create neuromodulation by inhibiting or...
