Prognostic Impact of the Presence and Absence of Angina on Mortality and Cardiovascular Outcomes in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes and Stable Coronary Artery Disease: Results from the BARI 2D (Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation 2 Diabetes) Trial
Conclusions: Whatever their symptom status, patients with type 2 diabetes and stable CAD were at similar risk of cardiovascular events and death. These findings suggest that these patients may be similarly managed in terms of risk stratification and preventive therapies. Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Versus Coronary Bypass Surgery in United States Veterans With Diabetes
ConclusionsThis study was severely underpowered for its primary endpoint, and therefore no firm conclusions about the comparative effectiveness of CABG and PCI are possible. There were interesting differences in the components of the primary endpoint. However, the confidence intervals are very large, and the findings must be viewed as hypothesis generating only. Risk Factors, Therapeutic Approaches, and In‐Hospital Outcomes in Mexicans With ST‐Elevation Acute Myocardial Infarction: The RENASICA II Multicenter Registry
ConclusionsLargely modifiable risk factors and preventable short‐term complications are responsible for most STEMI cases and outcomes in this Mexican population.

Acute hyperglycaemia and inflammation in patients with ST segment elevation myocardial infarction.
CONCLUSIONS: Acute hyperglycaemia is associated with worse in-hospital outcomes in patients with STEMI. More severe inflammation (defined as leukocyte count on admission) is noted in STEMI patients with adverse events. A significant positive correlation can be seen between glucose level and leukocyte count on admission, and concomitant presence of both acute hyperglycaemia and more severe inflammation in patients with STEMI was found to be an independent predictor of poor in-hospital outcomes. Major adverse events, six months after endovascular revascularization for critical limb ischemia in diabetic patients.
CONCLUSION: Based on our findings, it seems that along with current usual therapeutic routines which focus on wound healing and limb salvage, more attention should be paid to simultaneous diagnostic assessments and treatment of cardiovascular disease in this group of patients during short-term follow- up. Prominent features of management strategies in acute coronary syndromes with the new oral antiplatelet agents.
Abstract The novel oral P2Y12 inhibitors (prasugrel and ticagrelor) have been incorporated into the recently updated acute coronary syndrome (ACS) guidelines, as an adjunct antiplatelet treatment to aspirin. The studies involving the use of new oral antiplatelet agents that are more potent, predictable and faster platelet inhibitors than clopidogrel have demonstrated superiority with respect to the primary composite endpoint (cardiovascular death, non-lethal myocardial infarction, stroke) for both prasugrel and ticagrelor compared to clopidogrel. The subgroup analysis of the relevant studies showed that these new ...

Development and Validation of a Cardiovascular Risk Assessment Model in Patients With Established Coronary Artery Disease
In conclusion, in patients with established coronary artery disease, the risk of cardiovascular mortality during longer term follow-up can be adequately predicted using the clinical characteristics available at baseline. However, the prediction of nonfatal outcomes, both separately and combined with fatal outcomes, poses major challenges for clinicians and model developers.

Dual non-responsiveness to antiplatelet treatment is a stronger predictor of cardiac adverse events than isolated non-responsiveness to clopidogrel or aspirin
Conclusions: Dual low responsiveness to clopidogrel and aspirin is a strong predictor of cardiac adverse events, especially in patients with diabetes mellitus, which underlines the need for personalized antiplatelet treatment.

Relationship Between ST-Segment Recovery and Clinical Outcomes After Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: The HORIZONS-AMI ECG Substudy Report Myocardial Infarction
Conclusions— In this large international study, absent STR 60 minutes after primary PCI was present in 1 in 5 patients with ST-segment–elevation myocardial infarction and was a significant independent predictor of major adverse cardiovascular events and target vessel revascularization at 3 years. DiaSurg 2 trial - surgical vs. medical treatment of insulin-dependent type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients with a body mass index between 26 and 35 kg/m2: study protocol of a randomized controlled multicenter trial - DRKS00004550
This study aims at investigating whether Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is an efficient treatment for non-severely obese T2DM patients in terms of preventing long-term complications and mortality. Methods: The DiaSurg 2 trial is a multicenter, open randomized controlled trial comparing RYGB including standardized medical treatment if needed to exclusive standardized medical treatment of T2DM (control group). The primary endpoint is a composite time-to-event endpoint (cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, coronary bypass, percutaneous coronary intervention, non-fatal stroke, amputation, surgery for peripheral athero...

Social connectedness and predictors of successful ageing
Conclusions: A healthy lifestyle and maintenance of healthy weight, but not social connectedness, may improve the chances of ageing successfully by our definition. Social connectedness may be related to a perception of ageing well, but it does not appear to help avoid the usual conditions associated with ageing.

Prognostic implications of DPP‐4 inhibitor vs. sulfonylurea use on top of metformin in a real world setting – results of the 1 year follow‐up of the prospective DiaRegis registry
ConclusionsThe present results confirm prior randomised controlled trial results in patients with type 2 diabetes from real world clinical practice demonstrating that DPP4‐I on top of prior metformin monotherapy result in similar HbA1c reductions within 12 months but a significant reduction in hypoglycaemia compared with sulfonylurea added to metformin. The reduction in vascular events observed has to be verified in larger cohorts.

Incidence and Outcome of High On-Treatment Platelet Reactivity in Patients With Non-ST Elevation Acute Coronary Syndromes Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (from the VIP VerifyNow and Inhibition of Platelet Reactivity Study)
In conclusion, 1/3 of patients with acute coronary syndromes who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention and stenting showed high on-treatment RPR on bedside monitoring. They had a worse prognosis, but the level of platelet inhibition was not independently associated with the incidence of ischemic or bleeding events.
