Home-based rehabilitation versus hospital-based rehabilitation for stroke patients in post-acute care stage: Comparison on the quality of life
CONCLUSIONS: The home-based rehabilitation was of lower intensity and duration than the hospital-based one, but it still achieved a significant improvement in QOL for the PAC stroke patients. The hospital-based rehabilitation offered more time and treatment sessions. Therefore hospital-based patients responded with better QOL outcomes than the home-based patients.PMID:37221114 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2023.05.007

Ocular motor nerve palsy in patients with diabetes: High-resolution MR imaging of nerve enhancement
CONCLUSION: High-resolution MRI evaluation of diplopia in diabetic patients is used to rule out a diagnosis of acute stroke and contributes to the positive diagnosis of ocular motor nerve impairment, possibly combining the influences of inflammatory and microvascular phenomena. Dedicated MR imaging should be included in the initial diagnosis and longitudinal follow-up of patients with diabetic ophthalmoplegia.PMID:37210294 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2023.01.009

Trends and Treatment Approaches for Complications in Neuroscience Experiments with Monkey Species
Comp Med. 2023 May 19. doi: 10.30802/AALAS-CM-22-000079. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOur goal in this manuscript is to advance the assessment and treatment of monkey species in neuroscience research. We hope to begin a discussion and establish baseline data on how complications are identified and treated. We surveyed the neuroscience research community working with monkeys and compiled responses to questions about investigator demographics, assessment of animal wellbeing, treatment choices, and approaches to mitigate risks associated with CNS procedures and promote monkey health and wellbeing. The majority of the respond...

A case with prolonged headache after COVID-19 vaccination and later developed Bell's palsy
CONCLUSION: Reactivation of latent herpes virus has been suggested as one of the possible mechanisms underlying the phenomenon, but the causal pathophysiology related to the symptom needs further validation. Moreover, in the event of facial palsy post-vaccination, alternative diagnoses such as Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), Ramsey-Hunt syndrome, Lyme disease, trauma, central nervous system infection (CNS) infection, or stroke should also be considered.PMID:37198509

Endovascular Treatment for Spontaneous bilateral carotid artery dissection with acute ischemic stroke: A Case Report with automated postprocessing CT perfusion findings and Review of the Literature
Acta Neurol Taiwan. 2023 Jun 30;32(2):48-56.ABSTRACTCarotid artery dissection (CAD) is a common cause of stroke, accounting for up to 25% of all ischemic strokes in young and middle-aged patients. CAD should be considered in young patients with unexplained head and neck pain, with or without focal neurological symptoms and signs. While the clinical features may raise suspicion for CAD, the diagnosis is confirmed by its typical neuroimaging findings. Meanwhile, simultaneous spontaneous dissection of the bilateral carotid artery has rarely been reported. We herein describe a clinically challenging case of a simultaneous bila...
