Japanese pharmaceutical giant Takeda is boosting its finances ahead of its costly acquisition of Shire plc, selling its stake in a Chinese joint venture for $280 million and reportedly planning a record $20 billion bond deal. Telemedicine companies are actively looking for ways to open the sector up to broader adoption. Partnerships and acquisitions seem to be the fastest means to that end, as two recent telemedicine deals would suggest. Jan Medical begins coop BrainPulse testing with the US Army
Jan Medical said today that it has launched a cooperative research and development deal with the US Army Medical Materiel Agency to evaluate its BrainPulse device. Jan Medical’s BrainPulse device is designed to non-invasively capture novel physiological signals through a patient’s cardiac output, used to measure vascular and brain tissue conditions, the company said. The data can be used as an ‘aid to diagnoses’ for multiple indications, including concussion and stroke. Stryker closes $664m Entellus Medical buy
Entellus Medical (NSDQ:ENTL) said today it closed its $664 million sale to Stryker (NYSE:SYK), becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of the Kalamazoo, Mich.-based medtech firm. Plymouth, Minn.-based Entellus, founded in 2006, makes a family of minimally invasive balloon device products, including its flagship Xpress device, that are designed to treat blocked sinuses. Johnson & Johnson‘s (NYSE:JNJ) Cerenovus division this week announced the launch of its Galaxy G3 Mini embolic coil and released data from a study of its Embotrap device designed to remove clots from the brain following ischemic stroke. The Galaxy G3 Mini coils are designed to be approximately 25% softer than the Galaxy G3 xsft coils, with an ultra-low coil profile and a primary wind diameter of 0.009 inches, which Cerenovus said is the lowest profile available in its Spectra line. Jefferson, Magee complete merger
Jefferson Health added its fourth new member since 2015 with the completion of its merger with Magee Rehabilitation Hospital.   The leaders of Jefferson and Magee said Tuesday the integration will enable two organizations, both nationally ranked, to provide “an even higher level of care” to patients regaining independence from spinal cord injury, stroke, brain injury, amputation, multiple sclerosis and/or orthopedic injuries. Endonovo Therapeutics finally buys Rio Grande Neuroscience assets for nearly $5m
Nearly a year-and-a-half after their planned $22 million merger fell through,Endonovo Therapeutics (OTC:ENDV) said last week that it acquired intellectual property and assets from Rio Grande Neurosciences for $4.5 million. Rio Grande in August 2016 backed out of deal with Endonovo after seeking to renegotiate its terms when Steven Gluckstern, chairman & CEO of Santa Fe-based Rio Grande, dissolved a binding letter of intent. Penumbra picks up Italian distributor Crossmed for $9m
Penumbra (NYSE:PEN) said today it paid $9.4 million (EU €8.2 million) for all outstanding shares of Italian Crossmed S.p.a., which operated as the company’s exclusive distributor in Italy, San Marino and the Vatican. Philips picks up EEG dev Electrical Geodesics for $37m
Royal Philips (NYSE:PHG) said today it has agreed to acquire Electrical Geodesics for $36.7 million (GBP£ 29 million). Amsterdam-based Philips said that EGI’s portfolio of EEG hardware, software and acquisition sensors would work to complement its existing imaging tech and advanced informatics portfolio for neurological applications.
