Perivascular spaces mediate a relationship between diabetes and other cerebral small vessel disease markers in cerebrovascular and neurodegenerative diseases
Cerebral small vessel disease (SVD) is used to describe heterogeneous pathological changes in perforating arterioles, venules, and capillaries that supply blood to subcortical structures.1 These pathological changes manifest on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as quantifiable volumetric measures. Established markers of SVD identified on MRI include deep white matter hyperintensities (dWMH) and periventricular white matter hyperintensities (pWMH) of presumed vascular origin and lacunes, and MRI visible enlarged perivascular spaces (PVS) in the white matter (wmPVS) or basal ganglia (bgPVS).

Quality-of-life, concerns, and treatment priorities in patients with cancer-related ischemic stroke: A prospective survey study
Comorbid cancer with stroke is a complex situation with multiple factors affecting quality of life (QoL). No specific questionnaire exists to assess current drivers of QoL and future concerns and priorities in patients with cancer-related stroke.

Associations between early in-hospital medications and the development of delirium in patients with stroke
Patients hospitalized with stroke develop delirium at higher rates than general hospitalized patients. While several medications are associated with existing delirium, it is unknown whether early medication exposures are associated with subsequent delirium in patients with stroke. Additionally, it is unknown whether delirium identification is associated with changes in the prescription of these medications.

Risk of recurrent ischemic stroke in patients with patent foramen ovale: The role of D-dimer
Paradoxical embolism under elevated thromboembolic conditions is known to be the primary mechanism of patent foramen ovale (PFO)-related stroke. We hypothesized that higher levels of D-dimer, a marker of thromboembolism, could increase the risk of stroke recurrence in patients with PFO.

Greater burden of white matter lesions and silent infarcts ipsilateral to carotid stenosis
Carotid stenosis may cause silent cerebrovascular disease (CVD) through atheroembolism and hypoperfusion. If so, revascularization may slow progression of silent CVD. We aimed to compare the presence and severity of silent CVD to the degree of carotid bifurcation stenosis by cerebral hemisphere.

Apolipoprotein E ε2 allele is associated with lower risk of carotid artery obstruction in a population-based autopsy study
Apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 allele has been associated with higher carotid atherosclerosis risk, while the APOE-ε2 seems to decrease this risk. Data from autopsy studies, where carotid arteries can be evaluated in their full extension, is scarce. Therefore, we investigated the association between APOE alleles and direct m orphometric measurements of carotid atherosclerosis in an autopsy study with an admixed sample.

Alteration in brain functional connectivity in patients with post-stroke cognitive impairment during memory task: A fNIRS study
Post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) refers to a spectrum of cognitive deterioration following stroke, ranging from mild cognitive impairment to dementia. Cortical plastic alterations associated with post-stroke cognitive impairment are not well documented. It is universally acknowledged as a prevalent and severe clinical syndrome that has an adverse influence on the prognosis of stroke patients [1]. Although PSCI is an umbrella term for a variety of pathological conditions, memory, and cognition impairments are the most troubling for stroke survivors and their carers [2].

Pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases ameliorates cognitive impairment after intracerebral hemorrhage with epigenetic alteration in the hippocampus
Post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) interferes with neurorehabilitation in patients with stroke. Epigenetic regulation of the hippocampus has been targeted to ameliorate cognitive function. In particular, the acetylation level of histones is modulated by exercise, a potent therapy for patients with stroke.

Pulmonary hypertension: An unexplored risk factor for stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation
Atrial fibrillation (Afib) is one of the most common and significant risk factors for stroke, with the CHADsVAsc score used as the tool for stroke risk assessment. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) has not been studied as an independent risk factor for stroke in individuals with Afib.
