High-resolution magnetic resonance vessel wall imaging-guided endovascular recanalization for nonacute intracranial artery occlusion
CONCLUSIONS: The high-resolution MR-VWI modality could be used to guide endovascular recanalization for nonacute ICAO. Occlusion with residual lumen and shorter occlusion length on high-resolution MR-VWI were identified as predictors of technical success of endovascular recanalization for nonacute ICAO.PMID:34861645 | DOI:10.3171/2021.9.JNS211770

Repeated intravenous infusion of mesenchymal stem cells for enhanced functional recovery in a rat model of chronic cerebral ischemia
CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that repeated systemic administration of MSCs over 3 weeks resulted in greater functional improvement as compared to single administration and/or vehicle infusion. In addition, administration of MSCs is associated with promotion of interhemispheric connectivity through the CC in the chronic phase of cerebral infarction.PMID:34861644 | DOI:10.3171/2021.8.JNS21687

Interventional outcomes for patients eligible for entry into the ARUBA clinical trial: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Intervention for unruptured AVMs affords acceptable outcomes for appropriately selected patients. The risk of hemorrhage following intervention compared favorably to the natural history of unruptured AVMs. The included studies were retrospective and varied in treatment and AVM characteristics, thereby limiting the generalizability of their data. Future studies from prospective registries may clarify patient, nidus, and intervention selection criteria that will refine the challenging management of patients with unruptured AVMs.PMID:34740184 | DOI:10.3171/2021.7.JNS211186

Multiple predictors of in-stent restenosis after stent implantation in symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis
CONCLUSIONS: Elevated hs-CRP level, NLR, residual stenosis, Mori type B and C, CAD, and concurrent intracranial tandem stenosis are the main predictors of intracranial ISR, and elevated hs-CRP is crucially associated with recurrent stroke in patients with symptomatic ICAS after intracranial stent implantation.PMID:34715652 | DOI:10.3171/2021.6.JNS211201

Bypassing the intensive care unit for patients with acute ischemic stroke secondary to large-vessel occlusion
CONCLUSIONS: A recanalization grade lower than mTICI 2B, ASPECTS < 8, and postprocedure hyperdensity on cone-beam CT were shown to be independent predictors of requiring ICU-level care. Routine admission to ICU-level care can be costly and confer increased risk for hospital-acquired conditions. Safely and reliably identifying low-risk patients has the potential for cost savings, value-based care, and decreasing hospital-acquired conditions.PMID:34653995 | DOI:10.3171/2021.6.JNS21308
