Effect of endovascular treatment within 6 hours for acute basilar artery occlusion
CONCLUSIONS: Based on the study design, patients with acute BAO who received EVT within 6 hours were associated with improved favorable outcome and decreased deaths compared with patients who received SMT. Predictors of desirable outcome in patients undergoing EVT included lower age, lower baseline National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score, higher baseline posterior circulation Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score, absence of diabetes mellitus, and modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction scores 2b-3.PMID:35623368 | DOI:10.3171/2022.4.JNS22355

Activation of the NLRP3/IL-1 β/MMP-9 pathway and intracranial aneurysm rupture associated with the depletion of ERα and Sirt1 in oophorectomized rats
CONCLUSIONS: To the authors' knowledge, this work represents the first demonstration that, in an aneurysm model under estrogen-deficient conditions, the depletion of ERα and Sirt1 may contribute to activation of the NLRP3/IL-1β/MMP-9 pathway, facilitating the rupture of IAs in the estrogen-deficient rat IA rupture model.PMID:35594890 | DOI:10.3171/2022.4.JNS212945

Long-term functional independence after minimally invasive endoscopic intracerebral hemorrhage evacuation
CONCLUSIONS: In a single-center minimally invasive endoscopic ICH evacuation cohort, NIHSS score on presentation, lack of IVH, and shorter time to evacuation were independently associated with functional independence at 6 months. Factors associated with functional independence may help to better predict populations suitable for minimally invasive endoscopic evacuation and guide protocols for future clinical trials.PMID:35561694 | DOI:10.3171/2022.3.JNS22286

Not a trifecta: complementary use of carotid artery revascularization techniques in the era of hybrid neurosurgery
CONCLUSIONS: This real-world experience reflects the current practice of hybrid neurosurgery at two high-volume tertiary care centers and suggests that all three treatment modalities have comparable safety and effectiveness if patients are properly selected.PMID:35561689 | DOI:10.3171/2022.4.JNS22420
