A clinical application study of a stent placement assessment
Discussion: Currently, no prospective controlled data exist regarding the efficacy and safety of carotid stenting in the acute phase. Previously, we had developed an ECASES stent placement system for acute carotid artery occlusion. The present study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of ECASES in a randomized, double-blind prospective study and clarify its guiding significance in acute atherosclerotic carotid artery occlusion surgery.

A Chinese female patient with LGI1 and mGluR5 antibodies: A case report
We present a case of AE with dual seropositive antibodies of LGI1 and mGluR5 in a 65-year-old woman who presented with sudden onset left faciobrachial dystonic seizures and unresponsive for 5 hours. Diagnosis: The patient was diagnosed with anti-LGI1 AE and anti-mGluR5 AE mainly based on the clinical symptoms and further test of the antibody in serum and cerebral spinal fluid (CSF). Interventions and outcomes: The patient was treated with glucocorticoid intravenous drip. We also gave her the therapy of immunoglobulin (25 g q.d) for 5 days and anti-epileptic therapy. She had no more convulsions on the left s...

A meta-analysis of intravenous thrombolysis versus bridging therapy for ischemic stroke
Conclusions: This study confirms that IVMT is more effective and safe than IVT alone in patients with AIS. However, more and higher-quality randomized clinical trials comparing IVMT to IV alone are warranted for validation.

Serum neurofilament light chain levels are correlated with the infarct volume in patients with acute ischemic stroke
Neurofilament light chains (NfLs) are promising biomarkers of neuroaxonal damage in stroke patients. We investigated the correlations between NfL levels and infarct volume, initial stroke severity, and functional outcomes at discharge in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

The efficacy of transitional care services in patients with transient ischemic attack: A retrospective cohort study
Transient ischemic attack (TIA) carries a particularly high short-term risk of stroke, which is associated with brain dysfunction caused by a regional reduction in blood flow. Transitional care services present benefits in improving ischemic neurological function and decreasing the recurrence in patients with TIA. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of transitional care on clinical outcomes in patients hospitalized for TIA. We retrospectively collected data about 1288 patients with TIA from May 2017 to June 2019. Patients were divided into mild (n = 438), moderate (n = 420) and severe group (nâ...

Relationship between MTHFR C677T, homocysteine, and ischemic stroke in a large sample of the Han Chinese population
Ischemic stroke, one of the prevalent causes of death and disability worldwide, is linked to environmental and genetic factors, including polymorphisms in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene involved in homocysteine metabolism. The present study aimed to explore the relationship between the MTHFR C677T variant, plasma homocysteine, and risk of developing large-artery atherosclerotic ischemic stroke (LAAIS) among Han Chinese.

Blood pressure variability related to early outcome of acute ischemia stroke in a prospective observational study
In conclusion, the present study suggests that high BPV is a risk factor for poor early prognosis in acute ischemic stroke.

The age factor influencing long-term physical functionality in stroke patients undergoing intra-arterial thrombectomy treatment
The treatment of acute ischemic stroke is heavily time-dependent, and even though, with the most efficient treatment, the long-term functional outcome is still highly variable. In this current study, the authors selected acute ischemic stroke patients who were qualified for intravenous thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator and followed by intra-arterial thrombectomy. With primary outcome defined by the functional level in a 1-year follow-up, we hypothesize that patients with older age are at a disadvantage in post-stroke recovery. However, an age-threshold should be determined to help clinicians in sel...

Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score applied to hyperdense lesion on noncontrast CT immediately post-thrombectomy is a predictor of poor outcome in acute ischemic stroke: A case-control study
We aimed to evaluate whether Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) applied to hyperdense lesion on noncontrast CT obtained immediately post-thrombectomy (post-ASPECTS) is useful for predicting poor outcome. We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent noncontrast CT (NCCT) immediately after mechanical thrombectomy between January 2017 and July 2020 in our comprehensive stroke center. We collected baseline NCCT and post-ASPECTS score. The sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of the post-ASPECTS in predicting clinical outcome were calculated. A total of 223 patients were inclu...

The association between the serum vitamin D levels and the stroke lesion size, functional ability, and cognition in elderly Korean ischemic stroke patients
This study included Korean ischemic stroke patients aged 65 to 85 years. The size of the lesion was measured in brain images taken within 24 hours of hospitalization. The level of 25-(OH) Vitamin D (ng/mL), a metabolite of vitamin D, in the serum collected within 48 hours of hospitalization, and the modified Barthel index (MBI), gait performance, the muscle power of hip and knee extensors on the hemiplegic side, and mini-mental status examination (MMSE) were recorded within 1 week of the onset of the disease. Each factor was compared through correlation analysis, and the significance was confirmed using the Spearman correl...

Diffuse low-grade glioma misdiagnosed as acute cerebral infarction: A case report
We report a case of DLGG detected by computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Patient concerns: A 58-year-old man suddenly phantom smells for half an hour and was previously healthy. Diagnoses: Computed tomography findings showed a leaf-shaped slightly hypodense shadow in the right temporal lobe with no obvious mass effect and an unclear boundary. MRI findings showed diffuse and slightly longer T1-weighted imaging (T1WI)/T2-weighted imaging (T2WI)signal in the right temporal lobe and hippocampus, slight hyperintensity on diffusion-weighted imaging, diffuse swelling in the right temporal lobe ...

Incidence of thromboembolic complications in hospitalized COVID-19 patients in a medical ward in Japan: A single-center retrospective and prospective observational study
Conclusion: Thromboembolic complications of COVID-19 are rare even in severe cases in a medical ward in a Japanese hospital. Further studies are needed to identify severe COVID-19 patients with a higher risk for thromboembolic complications in Japan.

Risk of future cardiovascular diseases in different years postpartum after hypertensive disorders of pregnancy: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Discussion: A history of HDP is associated with approximately 2- to 4-fold increase in the risk of CVDs. Screening for CVDs and their risk factors in women with prior HDP since delivery, especially the first 5 years after delivery is suggested for early detection and appropriate management. Evidence on the risks of CVDs in preeclampsia with severe features and early onset of preeclampsia is limited due to having few studies and high heterogeneity. Funding: The Royal Golden Jubilee PhD Program–RGJ (PHD/0183/2561); Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) Research Career Development Grant–RSA (RSA618000...
