Stroke and Systemic Thromboembolism according to CHA < sub > 2 < /sub > DS < sub > 2 < /sub > -VASc Score in Contemporary Korean Patients with Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSION: Contemporary AF patients have a stroke rate about one-fifth that in OAC-naïve AF patients and exhibit different stroke risk factors.STUDY REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02786095).PMID:35352882 | PMC:PMC8965433 | DOI:10.3349/ymj.2022.63.4.317

Metabolic syndrome with hyperglycemia and the risk of ischemic stroke.
Conclusion: In Asian population, patients with MetSyn accompanied by T2DM are at the greatest risk for acute non-embolic stroke. Additionally, IFG was not observed to be associated with an increased risk for MetSyn-related ischemic stroke. PMID: 23364957 [PubMed - in process]

The Effect of Pulsatility Index on Infarct Volume in Acute Lacunar Stroke.
CONCLUSION: We demonstrated that PI was an independent determinant of infarct volume in acute lacunar stroke. The PI value measured in acute stroke may be a surrogate marker of the extent of ischemic injury. PMID: 27189290 [PubMed - in process]

Effect of an oral hygienic care program for stroke patients in the intensive care unit.
Conclusion: Our OHCP was effective in improving the oral hygienic status and periodontal health of stroke patients during their stay in the ICU. Therefore, we recommend administration of the OHCP for stroke patients during their stay in the ICU. PMID: 24339313 [PubMed - in process]

Comparison of Outcomes after Device Closure and Medication Alone in Patients with Patent Foramen Ovale and Cryptogenic Stroke in Korean Population.
CONCLUSION: Compared to medical therapy, device closure of PFO in patients with cryptogenic stroke did not show difference in reduction of recurrent embolic events in the real world's setting. However, considering high risk of echocardiographic findings in the closure group, further investigation of the role of PFO closure in the Asian population is needed. Subsequent Thrombotic Outcomes in Patients with Ischemic Stroke with Antiphospholipid Antibody Positivity.
CONCLUSION: There was no increased risk of subsequent thrombotic events in ischemic stroke patients with definite APS, compared with those with indefinite APS. PMID: 29047236 [PubMed - in process]

Comparison of Rhythm and Rate Control Strategies for Stroke Occurrence in a Prospective Cohort of Atrial Fibrillation Patients.
CONCLUSION: In this prospective AF cohort, compared with the rate control strategy, the rhythm control strategy was associated with fewer cardiovascular events and strokes in a short-term period. PMID: 29436194 [PubMed - in process]

Association between Plasma Osmolality and Case Fatality within 1 Year after Severe Acute Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSION: Elevated plasma osmolality was independently associated with 3-month case fatality, but not 1-year case fatality, for severe acute ischemic stroke.PMID:34164957 | DOI:10.3349/ymj.2021.62.7.600
