The usefulness of the kurashiki prehospital stroke scale in identifying thrombolytic candidates in acute ischemic stroke.
Conclusion: The KPSS is an effective prehospital stroke scale for identifying candidates for IV-tPA and IA-UK, as indicated by excellent correlation with the NIHSS, in the assessment of stroke severity in acute ischemic stroke. PMID: 24532511 [PubMed - in process]

Factors associated with ischemic stroke on therapeutic anticoagulation in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation.
CONCLUSION: NVAF patients with high CHADS₂/CHA₂DS₂-VASc scores and a previous ischemic stroke or smoking history are at high risk of stroke despite optimal warfarin treatment. Some other measures to reduce the risk of stroke would be necessary in those specific groups of patients. PMID: 25683989 [PubMed - in process]

Frequent Premature Atrial Contractions as a Poor Prognostic Factor in Cryptogenic Stroke Patients with Concomitant Non-Sustained Atrial Tachycardia.
Abstract In cryptogenic stroke patients, early detection of new-onset atrial fibrillation (AF) and recurrent stroke is required to prevent poor clinical outcomes. Therefore, we investigated the predictors of new-onset AF and recurrent stroke in cryptogenic stroke patients without previously diagnosed AF. In total, 390 patients who were diagnosed with stroke and non-sustained atrial tachycardia (NSAT) on 24-hour Holter monitoring were followed up to assess new-onset AF and recurrent stroke. The 5-year event-free survival as well as the predictors of recurrent stroke or new-onset AF were investigated. Based on recei...

Characteristics of inpatient care and rehabilitation for acute first-ever stroke patients.
CONCLUSION: Our analysis revealed that a relatively small portion of patients who suffered from an acute first-ever stroke received rehabilitation consultation and inpatient rehabilitation treatment. Thus, applying standardized clinical practice guidelines for post-acute rehabilitation care is needed to provide more effective and efficient rehabilitation services to patients with stroke. Increased Risk of Cardiovascular Events in Stroke Patients Who had Not Undergone Evaluation for Coronary Artery Disease.
CONCLUSION: Acute stroke patients who underwent MDCT experienced fewer deaths, cardiovascular events, and recurrent strokes during follow-up. PMID: 27873503 [PubMed - in process]

CHA ₂DS₂-VASc Score in the Prediction of Ischemic Stroke in Patients after Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation of Typical Atrial Flutter.
CONCLUSION: CHA₂DS₂-VASc score is useful in a prediction model for the risk of stroke after catheter ablation of typical AFL. PMID: 29436191 [PubMed - in process]

Effect of Socioeconomic Status and Underlying Disease on the Association between Ambient Temperature and Ischemic Stroke.
CONCLUSION: Ambient temperature increases above a threshold were positively associated with ED visits for ischemic stroke in patients with diabetes and medical aid beneficiaries in summer. In winter, temperature, to a point, and ischemic stroke visits were inversely associated. PMID: 29869467 [PubMed - in process]

Characteristics of pulmonary vein enlargement in non-valvular atrial fibrillation patients with stroke.
CONCLUSION: Compared to the right PVs, the left PVs and LAA exhibited more significant enlargement in patients with AF and stroke than in patients with AF only. This finding suggests that the remodeling of left-sided LA structures might be related to stroke. PMID: 25323887 [PubMed - in process]

Beneficial effects of stroke-unit care in stroke patients with atrial fibrillation.
Conclusion: SU care improved the detection of AF and the rate of anticoagulation consideration in acute stroke patients. Our findings support the benefits of continuous cardiac monitoring in the SU for stroke patients. PMID: 23364960 [PubMed - in process]

Long-term mortality according to the characteristics of early neurological deterioration in ischemic stroke patients.
CONCLUSION: The results of the present study demonstrated that END is associated with higher mortality and the effects of END on short-term and long-term mortality depend on END characteristics. PMID: 24719133 [PubMed - in process]

CONCLUSION: Contemporary AF patients have a stroke rate about one-fifth that in OAC-naïve AF patients and exhibit different stroke risk factors.STUDY REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02786095).PMID:35352882 | DOI:10.3349/ymj.2022.63.4.317
