Association between Fibrinogen and Carotid Atherosclerosis According to Smoking Status in a Korean Male Population.
CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that cigarette smoking may modify the association between fibrinogen and carotid atherosclerosis. Further studies are required to confirm this finding in different populations. PMID: 26069112 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

eNOS3 Genetic Polymorphism Is Related to Post-Ablation Early Recurrence of Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSION: The rs1799983 variant of the eNOS3 gene was associated with ERAF, but not with CR, after RFCA. eNOS3 gene variants may have a potential role for stratification of post-ablation management. PMID: 26256966 [PubMed - in process]

Hemodynamic Significance of Internal Carotid or Middle Cerebral Artery Stenosis Detected on Magnetic Resonance Angiography.
CONCLUSION: A considerable proportion of ICA-MCA stenosis detected on MRA does not cause CVR impairment despite a fair correlation between them. Thus, hemodynamic state needs to be assessed for evaluating significance of stenosis, particularly in asymptomatic patients. PMID: 26446655 [PubMed - in process]

Nobori-Biolimus-Eluting Stents versus Resolute Zotarolimus-Eluting Stents in Patients Undergoing Coronary Intervention: A Propensity Score Matching.
CONCLUSION: In this cohort of patients treated with BES or ZES, the rate of MACCEs at 1 year was low and significantly not different between both groups. PMID: 28120558 [PubMed - in process]

Increased Uptake of AV-1451 in a Subacute Infarction Lesion.
Abstract ¹⁸F-AV-1451 is a tau PET ligand that has high affinity for paired helical filament tau. However, various off-target bindings unrelated to tau have also been reported. Herein, we report a case of 83-year-old woman, who showed abnormal uptake of AV-1451 that was shown to be subacute infarction. Clinicians should recognize that increased uptake of AV-1451 may be related to stroke. PMID: 29749140 [PubMed - in process]

Five-Year Outcomes of Successful Percutaneous Coronary Intervention with Drug-Eluting Stents versus Medical Therapy for Chronic Total Occlusions.
CONCLUSION: In this study, successful CTO PCI with DESs was associated with a higher risk of repeat PCI for the target vessel, but showed a reduced incidence of death or MI. PMID: 29869458 [PubMed - in process]

Antithrombotic Medication and the Risk of Vitreous Hemorrhage in Atrial Fibrillation: Korean National Health Insurance Service National Cohort.
CONCLUSION: Dual antiplatelet or triple therapy increased the risk of VH significantly, compared to warfarin monotherapy. Considering the low efficacy of preventing ischemic stroke and high risk of bleeding, dual or triple therapy using warfarin and antiplatelet agents should be avoided to prevent VH in AF patients. PMID: 30554492 [PubMed - in process]

Prevalence and Clinical Outcomes of Asymptomatic Carotid Artery Stenosis in Patients Undergoing Concurrent Coronary and Carotid Angiography.
CONCLUSION: Asymptomatic CAS was documented in up to 25% of patients with CAD. The presence of CAS in patients with CAD was associated with a higher rate of MACCEs. Therefore, detection of CAS by carotid angiography during CAG may be important for risk stratification for CAD patients, particularly those with multi-vessel disease. MRI Assessment of Cerebral Small Vessel Disease in Patients with Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage.
CONCLUSION: All MRI markers for SVD were worse in ICH patients than in healthy controls, and these markers were prominent even in young ICH patients. Lacunae, WMH, EPVS, and CMB should be considered as factors related with spontaneous ICH. PMID: 31347333 [PubMed - in process]

Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis Associated with Dutasteride Use.
Abstract Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is an uncommon cause of stroke that mainly affects young adults with known risk factors of prothrombotic conditions, pregnancy, infection, malignancy, and drugs. Dutasteride is a 5α-reductase inhibitor that is used for benign prostate hypertrophy and androgenetic alopecia. To date, CVT caused by dutasteride use has not been reported. A 25-year-old male presented with headache and diplopia. He had taken 0.5 mg of dutasteride every other day for 9 months to treat alopecia. A headache developed 7 months after he started taking medication, and horizontal diplopia occurred 1 m...

Determinants and Clinical Outcomes of Extended Dual Antiplatelet Therapy over 3 Years after Drug-Eluting Stent Implantation: A Retrospective Analysis.
CONCLUSION: In patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, indefinite use of DAPT does not show superior outcomes to those of guideline-DAPT. Major bleeding rates are also similar. PMID: 32608203 [PubMed - in process]

Concomitant Use of NSAIDs or SSRIs with NOACs Requires Monitoring for Bleeding.
CONCLUSION: When NSAIDs or SSRIs are required for NOAC users with AF, physicians need to monitor bleeding events and consider the use of PPIs, especially for combined use of both drugs or when initiating NOACs treatment. PMID: 32882758 [PubMed - in process]

Inhibition of Long Noncoding RNA SNHG15 Ameliorates Hypoxia/Ischemia-Induced Neuronal Damage by Regulating miR-302a-3p/STAT1/NF- κB Axis
CONCLUSION: SNHG15 was up-regulated in the hypoxia/ischemia mouse or cell model. The inhibition of SNHG15 ameliorates ischemia/hypoxia-induced neuronal damage and microglial inflammation by regulating the miR-302a-3p/STAT1/NF-κB pathway.PMID:33779086 | DOI:10.3349/ymj.2021.62.4.325
