Validation of Biomarker-Based ABCD Score in Atrial Fibrillation Patients with a Non-Gender CHA < sub > 2 < /sub > DS < sub > 2 < /sub > -VASc Score 0-1: A Korean Multi-Center Cohort
CONCLUSION: The biomarker-based ABCD score demonstrated improved stroke risk stratification in AF patients with non-gender CHA2DS2-VASc score 0-1. Furthermore, NOAC with an ABCD score ≥1 was associated with significantly lower stroke rate in AF patients with non-gender CHA2DS2-VASc score 0-1.PMID:36168241 | PMC:PMC9520051 | DOI:10.3349/ymj.2022.0157

Target Blood Pressure in Patients with Diabetes: Asian Perspective.
In conclusion, hypertension, in association with diabetes, has been found to be significantly correlated with an elevated risk for cardiovascular events. As the association between stroke and BP is stronger in Asians, compared to other ethnicities, consideration should be given for a target BP of 130/80 mm Hg in Asians. Clinical characteristics and impact of diabetes mellitus on outcomes in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation.
CONCLUSION: DM is a common morbidity coexisting with nonvalvular AF and is associated with an increased risk of 1-year all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and CEE. However, no increased risk of stroke was found during a 1-year follow-up in patients with AF and DM. PMID: 25510748 [PubMed - in process]

Clinical Risk Factors Affecting Procedure-Related Major Neurological Complications in Unruptured Intracranial Aneurysms.
CONCLUSION: A history of ischemic stroke was strongly correlated with procedure-related major neurological complications when treating UIAs. Accordingly, patients with UIAs who have a previous history of ischemic stroke might be at risk of procedure-related major neurological complications. Lenticulostriate Artery Involvement is Predictive of Poor Outcomes in Superficial Middle Cerebral Artery Territory Infarction.
CONCLUSION: LSA territory involvement is predictive of poor long-term outcomes in patients with superficial MCA territory infarction. PMID: 27873504 [PubMed - in process]

Effect of Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation on Hemiplegic Gait Patterns.
CONCLUSION: Gait training with RAS has beneficial effects on both kinematic and temporospatial patterns in patients with hemiplegia, providing not only clinical implications of locomotor rehabilitation with goal-oriented external feedback using RAS but also differential effects according to ambulatory function. Early Experience of Novel Oral Anticoagulants in Catheter Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation: Efficacy and Safety Comparison to Warfarin.
CONCLUSION: Pre-procedural anticoagulation duration was shorter and intra-procedural heparin requirement was higher with NOAC than with uninterrupted warfarin during AF ablation. Although the peri-procedural thromboembolism and bleeding incidences did not differ, minor stroke occurred in two cases in the NOAC group. PMID: 26847285 [PubMed - in process]

Label Adherence for Non-Vitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulants in a Prospective Cohort of Asian Patients with Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSION: In real-world practice, more than one-third of patients with NOAC prescriptions received an off-label reduced dose, which could result in an increased risk of stroke. Considering the high risk of stroke in these patients, on-label use of NOAC is recommended. PMID: 30799590 [PubMed - in process]

Current Anticoagulant Usage Patterns and Determinants in Korean Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSION: Renal disease and history of valvular heart disease were associated with warfarin use, while cancer and smoking status were associated with direct OAC use in high stroke risk patients. The combination of antiplatelet agents with OAC was prescribed in 73.6% of patients without definite indications recommended by guidelines. PMID: 31997620 [PubMed - in process]

Comparison of early clinical outcomes following transcatheter aortic valve implantation versus surgical aortic valve replacement versus optimal medical therapy in patients older than 80 years with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis.
CONCLUSION: Treatment with TAVI was associated with lower event rates compared to SAVR or OMT. Therefore, TAVI may be considered as the first therapeutic strategy in selected patients aged≥80 years with symptomatic severe AS. PMID: 23549802 [PubMed - in process]

Ivy Sign on Fluid-Attenuated Inversion Recovery Images in Moyamoya Disease: Correlation with Clinical Severity and Old Brain Lesions.
CONCLUSION: Because TIS has a strong tendency with severity of ischemic motor symptom and the presence of old lesions, the ivy sign may be useful in predicting severity of disease progression. PMID: 26256975 [PubMed - in process]

Cardiovascular Events of Electrical Cardioversion Under Optimal Anticoagulation in Atrial Fibrillation: The Multicenter Analysis.
CONCLUSION: Cardioversion appears as a safe procedure with a reasonably acceptable cardiovascular event rate. However, to prevent the cardiovascular events, several risk factors should be considered before cardioversion. PMID: 26446636 [PubMed - in process]
