Non ‐alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease is associated with stroke severity and progression of brainstem infarctions
ConclusionThese results suggest that NAFLD is a potential risk factor when evaluating the severity and progression of acute BSIs. This relationship is independent of classic risk factors and metabolic syndrome features. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Galectin ‐3 and risk of ischaemic stroke: Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke cohort
ConclusionsGalectin‐3 was associated with incident ischaemic stroke in younger but not older individuals. Confirmation of this finding, and elucidation of its implications for stroke pathophysiology and prevention, is needed.

Galectin ‐3 and risk of ischemic stroke in the Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) Cohort

Factors associated with changes in exposure to anticholinergic and sedative medications in elderly hospitalized patients: multicentre longitudinal study
ConclusionsThe drug management of elderly patients during hospital stays may increase exposure to anticholinergic and sedative drugs. Although the anticholinergic and sedative properties may be in relation to the therapeutic purpose, they also represent an unexpected risk. Physicians and clinical pharmacists should consider performing optimization of the drug prescriptions for patients at risk.

Cerebral small vessel disease, medial temporal lobe atrophy and cognitive status in patients with ischaemic stroke and transient ischaemic attack
ConclusionIn patients with ischaemic cerebrovascular disease, SVD features are associated with MTA, which is a common finding in stroke survivors. SVD and AD type neurodegeneration coexist, but the AD marker MTA, rather than SVD markers, is associated with post‐stroke cognitive impairment.

Vascular risk factors aggravate cognitive impairment in first‐ever young ischaemic stroke patients
ConclusionVascular risk factors aggravate cognitive impairment after young ischaemic stroke. Effective management of VRFs in young adults is urgent and this may reduce the cognitive impairment.

Tissue‐factor‐bearing microparticles (MPs‐TF) in patients with acute ischaemic stroke: the influence of stroke treatment on MPs‐TF generation
ConclusionOur findings suggest that patients with acute ischaemic stroke have increased generation of MPs‐TF. Nevertheless, further studies are needed in order to confirm such inference.

Apolipoprotein E polymorphisms and ischaemic stroke: a two‐center Greek study
ConclusionsOur study was indicative of a protective role of the ε3/ε3 genotype, especially in female patients. However, risk factors such as age, BMI, hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus and smoking have a strong impact on stroke occurrence and outweigh the protective role of the ε3/ε3 genotype.

Factors associated with post‐stroke anger proneness in ischaemic stroke patients
ConclusionsOur results show that PSAP is relatively prevalent and that previous stroke, neurological dysfunction and the MAO‐A gene are involved in the development of PSAP.

Prediction of hemorrhagic transformation in acute ischaemic stroke by micro‐ and macroalbuminuria after intravenous thrombolysis
ConclusionIn conclusion, the results of this study suggest that the presence of micro‐ and macroalbuminuria after IVT could be a predictor of severe HT in patients with acute ischaemic stroke.

The impact of predisposing factors on long‐term outcome after stroke in diabetic patients: the Fukuoka Stroke Registry
ConclusionsIn stroke patients with diabetes mellitus, age, NIHSS score on admission, diabetic nephropathy and HbA1c were independently associated with a poor outcome 1 year after the first ischaemic stroke.
