Functional independence measured in the acute phase of stroke predicts both generic and specific health-related quality of life: a 3-month prospective study in a middle-income country
CONCLUSION: Both generic and specific HRQoL at 3-month post-stroke can be predicted by functional independence assessed in the acute phase with the MBI.PMID:36412142 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2022.2147590

Longitudinal changes in physical activity accumulation patterns during 1-year follow-up in stroke survivors
CONCLUSIONS: Physical activity levels and accumulation patterns were highly stable throughout the 12-month follow-up period. Accumulating light physical activity and intermittent MVPA is important for maintaining physical activity levels in stroke survivors. These findings will promote a better understanding of disability and rehabilitation practice.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONPhysical activity levels and accumulation patterns were highly stable throughout the 12-month follow-up period. The accumulation of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity in long bouts might be challenging for stroke survivors.Accumulating light ph...

Emotional and social functioning after stroke in childhood: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: The assessment of psychological well-being and social functioning after pediatric stroke is helpful to provide adequate support to children and their families. Future studies are needed to better investigate these domains and to develop adequate methodologies for specific interventions.Implication for rehabilitationThis paper reviews research concerning emotional and social functioning following pediatric stroke in order to provide helpful information to clinicians and families and to improve rehabilitation pathways.Emotional and social functioning should be addressed during post-stroke evaluation and follow-u...

UK exceptional case driving application outcomes in post-stroke homonymous hemianopia: results from a clinical study
CONCLUSIONS: It is possible for individuals with post-stroke homonymous hemianopia to return to driving, where exceptional cases criteria are met. There is evidence to support use of the MAC as a clinical measurement of adaptation.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONIndividuals with post-stroke homonymous hemianopia should be fully informed regarding driving regulations that can differ between countries and sometimes different states within a country, as well as provided with the support and opportunity to consider a return to driving if appropriate.Professionals providing care within the stroke multi-disciplinary team should b...

Management of post-stroke fatigue: an Australian health professional survey
CONCLUSIONS: Few Australian health professionals formally assess post-stroke fatigue. Management is multidisciplinary and based on evidence from fatigue management in other conditions.Implications for rehabilitationMost health professionals are not routinely using formal assessment tools for fatigue, possibly due to a lack of consensus on best practice in research.Common strategies recommended by health professionals include energy optimisation strategies, education and exercise.Comprehensive guidelines for post-stroke fatigue management are yet to be established.Health professionals should assess post-stroke fatigue using...

Effect of whole-body vibration training on the recovery of lower limb function in people with stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with the control group, using WBVT treatment has a more obvious effect on the recovery of lower limb function and muscle spasticity, and there is no obvious advantage in motor function recovery.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThis Systematic Review and meta-analysis of evidence suggest that whole-body vibration training is effective in the rehabilitation of lower limb function in patients with stroke.Whole body vibration training may be a better choice for improving balance and spasm in people with stroke.Currently it is not known which whole-body vibration training model with vibration intensity, stim...
