Rate of Utilization and Determination of Withdrawal of Care among Acute Ischemic Stroke Patient Treated with Thrombolytics (P02.002)
CONCLUSIONS: Our results identify several individual and institution related factors that determine the use of "withdrawal of care" among thrombolytic treated ischemic stroke patients. The excessively high mortality and resource utilization mandates a more evidence based policy for "withdrawal of care" in these patients.Disclosure: Dr. Suri has nothing to disclose. Muscle Pain Intensity and Pressure Pain Threshold Changes in Different Periods of Stroke Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: In stroke patients, spontaneous muscle pain in the hemiparetic side is a common finding. Bilaterally symmetric changes of pressure pain threshold are probably caused by central sensitization mechanisms. PMID: 24247755 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Trends in stroke admissions to a Tanzanian hospital over four decades: A retrospective audit
ConclusionsThe burden of stroke on health services in Tanzania appears to have increased rapidly. If this increase is to be slowed then sustainable primary preventative measures to target known stroke risk factors will be required. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Quasi-experimental evaluation of a home care model for patients with stroke in China.
Conclusions Home care may be associated with higher quality of life and reduced dependency among stroke patients in China. Implications for Rehabilitation Home care can be effective method at improving the physical and psychological well-being of stroke survivors in China. The home care model in this study can improve health outcomes as well as reduce healthcare resources utilisation. Home care models for stroke survivors should be adapted to local healthcare policies and resources. PMID: 26824752 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Using a Knowledge-Based Survey on Urban, Minority Hypertensive Patients to Develop a Patient-Focused Stroke Risk Educational Video (P2.383)
Conclusions: Our animated video presented hypertension and stroke education based on patient knowledge assessments. Expert evaluation by SAC provided validity of the video’s educational content and design. Development of a tailored educational video allows for future investigation of the effects of tailored hypertension and stroke education on medically underserved, minority communities and high risk populations. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ogvmez5yxq0wqjz/The[percnt]20Pressure[percnt]20is[percnt]20Up[percnt]20-[percnt]20Video[percnt]20v2.mp4?dl=0Disclosure: Dr. Kwan has nothing to disclose. Designated Stroke Center Status and Hospital Characteristics as Predictors of In-Hospital Mortality among Hemorrhagic Stroke Patients in New York, 2008-2012
Conclusions: Admission to a DSC was independently associated with reduced in-hospital mortality for SAH patients but not for those with ICH. Other patient and hospital characteristics may explain the benefits of DSC status on outcomes after ICH. For conditions with clear treatments such as ischemic stroke and SAH, being treated in a DSC improves outcomes, but this trend was not observed in those with strokes, in those who did not have clear treatment guidelines. Identifying hospital-level factors associated with ICH and SAH represents a means to identify and improve gaps in stroke systems of care.Cerebrovasc Dis 2017;43:43-53

Assessment of Economic Aspects of Stroke in Different Clinical Management Settings: Academic vs. Non-academic (P3.055)
Conclusions:The academic status of healthcare facilities plays a key role in cost and charge of the management of stroke patients. Despite more employment of laboratory, imaging and resources in academic setting, comparison of prognosis, patient safety and clinical outcome in two groups remains unclear. Significant decrease in the cost-to-charge ratio may cause higher patients’ copay which reflects more in academic settings and uninsured individuals. Further studies to investigate effects of alterations in the cost-to-charge ratio on patients’ beneficiary is necessary.Disclosure: Dr. Fahimi has nothing to discl...

Electrocardiogram Changes as an Independent Predictive Factor of Mortality in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke; a Cohort Study.
Conclusion: Based on the findings of the present study, it seems that along with age and history of cardiac diseases, ECG changes can be considered as an independent predictive factor of mortality in patients with ischemic stroke. PMID: 31432037 [PubMed]

Simulation-Based Training of the Rapid Evaluation and Management of Acute Stroke (STREAM) —A Prospective Single-Arm Multicenter Trial
Introduction: Acute stroke care delivered by interdisciplinary teams is time-sensitive. Simulation-based team training is a promising tool to improve team performance in medical operations. It has the potential to improve process times, team communication, patient safety, and staff satisfaction. We aim to assess whether a multi-level approach consisting of a stringent workflow revision based on peer-to-peer review and 2–3 one-day in situ simulation trainings can improve acute stroke care processing times in high volume neurocenters within a 6 months period. Methods and Analysis: The trial is being carried out in a pre-tes...
