The Outcome of Status Epilepticus and Long-Term Follow-Up
Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of regular care and patient follow-up. Introduction Status epilepticus (SE) is a condition and most extreme form of epilepsy (1), which leads to abnormal and prolonged seizure (at least 5 min). In case SE persists over 30 min, it may have severe long-term consequences (2). Referring to the new classification scheme of SE, there are two operational dimensions of the definition: time point 1 (T1) is associated with abnormally prolonged seizure, when therapy should be initiated, while time point 2 (T2) is related to the time of on-going seizure activity involving a risk...

Status epilepticus: Refractory and super-refractory
Deepanshu Dubey, Jayantee Kalita, Usha K MisraNeurology India 2017 65(7):12-17Status epilepticus (SE) is an important neurological emergency. It is defined as seizures lasting for 5 minutes or more or recurrent seizures without recovery of consciousness to baseline between the attacks. Refractory SE (RSE) is defined as SE persisting despite sufficient dose of benzodiazepines and at least one antiepileptic drug (AED), irrespective of time. Super refractory SE (SRSE) is defined as SE that continues for 24 hours or more after the use of anesthetic therapy, including cases that recur on weaning of the anesthestic agent. RSE oc...

Severe Hypoxia with Status Epilepticus as a Possible Etiology of Sudden Death in Lesch Nyhan Syndrome: A Case Report and Review of the Literature (P3.252)
CONCLUSIONS: Severe hypoxia secondary to unrecognized nocturnal seizures may be an etiology of sudden death in Lesch Nyhan syndrome. Neurotransmitter abnormalities have been described in LNS, including alterations in adenosine, a neurotransmitter associated with death from seizure in animal models. This could be responsible for increased incidence of sudden death from seizures in LNS.Disclosure: Dr. Christy has nothing to disclose. Dr. Wilson has nothing to disclose.

Intraoperative seizures during craniotomy under general anesthesia
An acute symptomatic seizure is a clinical seizure occurring at the time of a systemic insult or in close temporal association with a documented brain insult [1]. Seizures have been reported to occur at the time of focal brain insults including head trauma, ischemic stroke, and intracranial hemorrhage [2] but have not previously been reported as an intraoperative consequence of a neurosurgical procedure. Propofol is commonly used as an anesthetic agent [3] and a treatment for status epilepticus [4], but it has been reported to be a proconvulsant in some cases [5].

Endovascular treatment of intracranial arteriovenous malformation with n-butyl cyanoacrylate. Working methods and experience in 58 cases.
CONCLUSIONS: The rates of total occlusion and of morbidity and mortality in the series are in the internationally described ranges. The implementation of intranidal closings with 20-30% devascularization per session and the use of post-embolization hypotension after the haemorrhage complications described resulted in the total absence of haemorrhagic complications.
