Examination of ADRB2 gene expression and influence of Dexmedetomidine and Propofol on Hemodynamics after Abdominal Surgery
This study aimed to investigate ADRB2 gene expression and further understand the effects of dexmedetomidine on cardiac output and oxygen metabolism in tissues and organs by comparing the changes in hemodynamics after the patient has been sedated with dexmedetomidine and propofol after abdominal surgery. A total of 84 patients were randomly divided into the Dexmedetomidine Group (DEX Group with 40 cases) and Propofol Group (PRO Group with 44 cases). For the DEX Group, dexmedetomidine was used for sedation (loading dose: 1 ug/kg, infused for 10min; maintenance dose: 0.3ug/kg/h ~); for the PRO Group, propofol was used for sed...

Pharmacological prevention of postictal agitation after electroconvulsive therapy —A systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionFor clinical practice, we believe that our results indicate that dexmedetomidine should be considered for the prevention of PIA in patients that have previously experienced PIA.

Propofol Inhibits Ferroptotic Cell Death Through the Nrf2/Gpx4 Signaling Pathway in the Mouse Model of Cerebral Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury
Neurochem Res. 2022 Nov 19. doi: 10.1007/s11064-022-03822-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFerroptosis is characterized by excessive accumulation of iron and lipid peroxides, which are involved in ischemia, reperfusion-induced organ injury, and stroke. Propofol, an anesthetic agent, has neuroprotective effects due to its potent antioxidant, anti-ischemic, and anti-inflammatory properties. However, the relationship between propofol and ferroptosis is still unclear. In the current study, we elucidated the role of ferroptosis in the neuroprotective effect of propofol in mouse brains subjected to cerebral ischemia reperfusion ...

Sevoflurane alleviates myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury via actitation of heat shock protein-70 in patients undergoing double valve replacement surgery
This study investigated the cardioprotective effect(s) of sevoflurane in rheumatic heart disease patients undergoing double valve replacement surgery (DVRS) under cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and its potential mechanisms (ChiCTR2100051220 on http://www.ChiCTR.org.cn). Forty-six patients were randomly assigned to undergo propofol or sevoflurane anesthesia during surgery. The levels of myocardial injury markers, inflammatory cytokines, heat shock protein-70 (HSP70), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were measured from blood samples. Mean arterial pressure, cardiac index, and stroke volume index were significantly highe...
