Hemodynamic effects of etomidate, propofol and electrical shock in patients undergoing implantable cardioverter-defibrillator testing.
CONCLUSIONS: Propofol significantly decreased BP by both reducing cardiac output and causing vasodilatation whereas etomidate only slightly decreased dBP and mBP without affecting other parameters. Propofol-induced changes were independent of LVEF or NYHA class. A Pilot Study for a Prospective, Randomized, Double-Blind Trial of the Influence of Anesthetic Depth on Long-Term Outcome.
CONCLUSIONS:: This pilot study demonstrated that depth of anesthesia targeting with BIS or SE was achievable in a high-risk population with adequate separation of processed electroencephalogram monitor targets. The expected incidence of postoperative complications and mortality occurred. We conclude that a large, multicenter, randomized controlled trial is feasible.
