Persistent High Pulse Pressure in Acute Non-Cardiogenic Ischemic Stroke as a Predictor of Neurological Deterioration and Recurrence of Ischemic Stroke: ADS Post-Hoc Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: High PP during the acute phase of ischemic stroke appears to be associated with ischemic stroke recurrence and neurological deterioration, particularly if PP is elevated both on admission and 24 h later after admission.PMID:37081614 | DOI:10.5551/jat.64079

Contemporary Antiplatelet and Anticoagulant Therapies for Secondary Stroke Prevention: A Narrative Review of Current Literature and Guidelines
Curr Neurol Neurosci Rep. 2023 Apr 11. doi: 10.1007/s11910-023-01266-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE OF REVIEW: Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. The annual incidence of new or recurrent stroke is approximately 795,000 cases per year in the United States, of which 87% are ischemic in nature. In addition to the management of modifiable high-risk factors to reduce the risk of recurrent stroke, antithrombotic agents (antiplatelets and anticoagulants) play an important role in secondary stroke prevention. This review will discuss the published literature on the use of antiplatelets and antic...

A Small Increase in Serum Creatinine within 48  h of Hospital Admission Is an Independent Predictor of In-Hospital Adverse Outcomes in Patients with ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction Undergoing Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: Findings from the Improving Care for Cardiovascular Disease in the China Project
CONCLUSION: A small increase in Scr during hospitalization in patients with STEMI undergoing primary PCI that does not meet the criteria for AKI is a risk factor for in-hospital adverse outcomes. This effect is maintained in patients with normal Scr at hospitalization. Trial Registration. Clinical trial registration: URL: https://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Sex Differences in Outcomes of Ticagrelor Therapy With or Without Aspirin After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome: A Post Hoc Secondary Analysis of the TICO Randomized Clinical Trial
CONCLUSIONS: After percutaneous coronary intervention for acute coronary syndrome, women demonstrated worse clinical outcomes than men. Ticagrelor monotherapy after 3-month dual-antiplatelet therapy was associated with significantly lower risk of net adverse clinical events in women without sex interaction.PMID:37021576 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.122.318725

The predictive value of interarm systolic blood pressure differences in patients with vascular disease: Sub-analysis of the COMPASS trial
CONCLUSIONS: Unlike primary prevention populations, measuring IAD for risk stratification purposes does not appear to be useful in patients with established vascular disease.PMID:37023507 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2023.03.008

Acute coronary syndrome in very elderly patients —a real-world experience
AbstractVery elderly population constitutes an increasingly larger proportion of patients admitted for acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Notably, age represents both a proxy of frailty and an exclusion criterion in clinical randomized trials, which probably contributes to lack of data and undertreatment of real-world elderly patients. The aim of the study is to describe patterns of treatment and outcome of very elderly patients with ACS. All consecutive patients aged  ≥ 80 years old (yo) admitted between January 2017 and December 2019 with ACS were included. The primary endpoint was in-hospital occurrence of major adv...
