Trends in Cardiovascular Mortality in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation and Cancer in the United States (1999 to 2020)
Cancer has been identified as an independent risk factor for atrial fibrillation (AF). Although the development of novel therapeutic agents has led to significant improvement in cancer-related outcomes, there is also a rising concern regarding the long-term impact of treatment-emergent cardiac adverse events such as AF.1 AF portends a poor prognosis in patients with cancer and is also associated with a twofold increase in the risk of stroke as compared with patients with AF without cancer.2 However, population-level data on the impact of AF on overall cardiovascular mortality in patients with cancer remain limited.

Conclusion: The aim of this bibliometric analysis is to provide an overall perspective for research on VRAC. High rates of oral anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation patients observed in a large multi-specialty health system in the Northeast
ConclusionsWe show dramatically increased OAC usage among patients with AF and that NOACs comprise the large majority of OACs compared with previous studies. This suggests an association between widespread adoption of NOACs and increased oral anticoagulation rates. Future directions include assessing barriers to oral anticoagulation and developing interventions to reduce disparity in OAC use between clinics.

Correlation Between Intracranial Calcification and Extracranial Stenosis of the Internal Carotid Artery
We examined a population not selected for cerebral disease. This retrospective study contained 179 subjects aged 18 years and older from the Hawaii Diagnostic Radiology database. Extracranial internal carotid artery stenosis was determined using the absolute diameter, North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial, and common carotid artery methods. Calcification was scored using the modified Woodcock method. A positive correlation between intracranial calcification and extracranial carotid stenosis was found using all three methods. An Explainable Artificial Intelligence Approach for Discovering Social Determinants of Health and Risk Interactions for Stroke in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation
Stroke remains the primary source of morbidity and mortality associated with atrial fibrillation (AF), despite major advances in prevention. Although effective stroke-prevention strategies are available, optimal implementation of these treatments is limited by (1) rudimentary stroke risk stratification tools (i.e., CHADS2-VA2Sc), and (2) disparities in care and outcomes of AF. Over 150,000 yearly strokes in the United States occur in patients with AF.1 Many of these occur in patients with AF who are misclassified as low-risk or fail to receive appropriate therapies because of healthcare disparities.

A Real-World Evaluation of Primary Medication Nonadherence in Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation Prescribed Oral Anticoagulants in the United States
ConclusionsMore than one-quarter of patients experienced PMN within 30 days of their initial prescription order. This rate decreased over a longer period, suggesting a delay in fills. Understanding the factors associated with PMN is warranted to develop effective interventions for improving OAC treatment rates in NVAF.
