Palliative Care for Hospitalized Patients With Stroke Clinical Sciences
This study explores patterns of palliative care utilization and death in hospitalized patients with stroke across the United States.Methods—Using the 2010 to 2012 nationwide inpatient sample databases, we included all patients discharged with stroke identified by International Classification of Diseases-Ninth Revision codes. Strokes were subclassified as ischemic, intracerebral, and subarachnoid hemorrhage. Gender Differences in the Risk of Stroke after Mechanical Circulatory Support
Introduction: Mechanical circulatory support (MCS) devices have extended survival and improved quality of life for select patients with advanced heart failure. There have been concerns regarding the incidence of stroke after MCS, and some studies have suggested that female gender is a risk factor for the development of neurological complications. Methods: Using the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project National Inpatient Sample database we identified patients requiring MCS implantation in United States hospitals from 2010 –2014.

Current evidence identified electrocardiographic abnormalities and cardiac arrhythmias in 50% of patients with an acute stroke.
