Contribution of participation and resilience to quality of life among persons living with stroke in Sweden: a qualitative study
CONCLUSION: Participants described a tension between adapting and accepting life after stroke. Resilience was a useful framework, highlighting the contribution of inner, social and societal resources to recovery and quality of life, both directly and as enhanced through increased participation. Important factors for adaptation are meaningful values in life, individual strategies for adaptation and support from both social relationship and the society.PMID:36062839 | DOI:10.1080/17482631.2022.2119676

A clinical decision support tool for improving adherence to guidelines on anticoagulant therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation at risk of stroke: A cluster-randomized trial in a Swedish primary care setting (the CDS-AF study)
ConclusionsThe present study demonstrates that a CDS can increase guideline adherence for anticoagulant therapy in patients with AF. Even though the observed difference was small, this is the first randomized study to our knowledge indicating beneficial effects with a CDS in patients with AF. Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors and risk of stroke and death in people with dementia
Discussion The use of AChEIs in people with dementia may be associated with reduced risk of ischemic stroke and death. These results call for a closer examination of the cardiovascular effects of AChEIs.

Low Incidence of Late Ipsilateral Ischaemic Stroke After Treatment for Symptomatic Carotid Stenosis in Sweden 2008-2017: Increased Risk in the Elderly and After Carotid Stenting
CONCLUSION: The incidence of ipsilateral IS after treatment for symptomatic carotid stenosis in Sweden 2008-2017 was low, demonstrating the effectiveness and durability of surgery in a real world setting. Only age above 80 years and CAS compared with CEA were associated with increased risk of ipsilateral IS.PMID:34794877 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2021.09.019

Study protocol of a non-randomised controlled trial evaluating the effectiveness of the F@ce 2.0 programme: a person-centred, ICT-supported and interdisciplinary rehabilitation intervention after stroke
Introduction Knowledge is missing on use of information and communication technology (ICT), for example, mobile phones/tablets in rehabilitation after stroke. F@ce 2.0 is a person-centred, interdisciplinary intervention supported by ICT. The components of F@ce 2.0 intend to increase performance in daily activities and participation in everyday life for patients with stroke and their significant others. Based on previous feasibility studies, a full-scale evaluation is planned in Sweden. The aim is to implement and evaluate F@ce 2.0, regarding performance of daily activities and participation in everyday life, in comparison ...

High consumption of dairy products and risk of major adverse coronary events and stroke in a Swedish population
Br J Nutr. 2023 Sep 6:1-28. doi: 10.1017/S0007114523001939. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe association between consumption of dairy products and risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) has been inconsistent. There is a lack of studies in populations with high intakes of dairy products. We aimed to examine the association between intake of dairy products and risk of incident major adverse coronary events and stroke in the Swedish Malmö Diet and Cancer cohort study. We included 26,190 participants without prevalent CVD or diabetes. Dietary habits were obtained from a modified diet history and endpoint data were extracted f...

Assessing environmental barriers by means of the swedish craig hospital inventory of environmental factors among people post-stroke.
Conclusion: In this study, the frequency-magnitude of environmental barriers encountered by people post-stroke are reported at a group level and adds information to the cumulative knowledge generation on perceived environmental barriers in the society. However, to inform which interventions are needed at a more detailed level, other data collection methods have to be added. PMID: 32544352 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Identifying factors explaining practice variation in secondary stroke prevention in primary care: a cohort study based on all patients with ischaemic stroke in the Stockholm region
Conclusions A high practice variation for dispensation of all secondary preventive drugs was observed. Patient and PCC level factors indicating good continuity of care and high level of general practitioner education were associated with higher use of statins. Findings are of importance to policymakers as well as individual providers of care, and more research and actions are needed to minimise inequality in healthcare.
