Interventions for the uptake of evidence-based recommendations in acute stroke settings
CONCLUSIONS: We are uncertain whether a multifaceted implementation intervention compared to no intervention improves adherence to evidence-based recommendations in acute stroke settings, because the certainty of evidence is very low.PMID:37565934 | PMC:PMC10416310 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD012520.pub2

Towards the implementation of optimal cardiac magnetic resonance risk stratification in PAH
Chest. 2023 Jul 30:S0012-3692(23)01066-8. doi: 10.1016/j.chest.2023.07.028. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The 2022 European pulmonary hypertension (PH) guidelines incorporate cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging metrics in the risk stratification of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) patients. Thresholds to identify patients at estimated 1-year mortality risks of <5%, 5-20% and >20% are introduced. However, these cut-off values are mostly single center based and require external validation.RESEARCH QUESTIONS: What are the discriminative prognostic properties of the current cardiac magnetic resonanc...

Simulation modelling to study the impact of adding comprehensive stroke centres. Can we deliver endovascular thrombectomy sooner?
Conclusions This study suggests that adding one or two CSCs in the north of the Netherlands would have modest impact. Improving workflow efficiencies seems to be more potent when aiming to improve existing acute stroke care systems.

A Smartphone-Delivered Program (Anathema) to Promote the Sexual Health of Older Adults, Colorectal Cancer Survivors, and Stroke Survivors: Protocol for a Feasibility Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSIONS: The study results will inform the refinement and scale-up of Anathema. Anathema's wider-scale implementation can potentially promote the sexual health of largely neglected user groups such as older adults, colorectal cancer survivors, and stroke survivors.INTERNATIONAL REGISTERED REPORT IDENTIFIER (IRRID): DERR1-10.2196/46734.PMID:37368469 | DOI:10.2196/46734

Mechanical thrombectomy is cost-effective versus medical management alone around Europe in patients with low ASPECTS
Conclusions MT is efficient versus MM alone for patients with low ASPECTS in eight countries across Europe. Patients with a large ischemic core could be treated with MT because it is both clinically beneficial and economically sustainable.

Clinical Symptoms, Laboratory Parameters and Long-Term Follow-up in a National DADA2 Cohort
In conclusion, this cohort describes the clinical, genetic and laboratory findings of 29 Dutch DADA2 patients. We describe the occurrence of HLH as a life-threatening disease complication and report a relatively high incidence of malignancies and mortality.

Safety and technical efficacy of early minimally invasive endoscopy-guided surgery for intracerebral haemorrhage: the Dutch Intracerebral haemorrhage Surgery Trial pilot study
ConclusionsMinimally invasive endoscopy-guided surgery within 8 h after symptom onset for supratentorial ICH appears to be safe and can effectively reduce ICH volume. Randomised controlled trials are needed to determine whether this intervention also improves functional outcome.Trial registrationClinicaltrials.gov: NCT03608423, August 1st, 2018.

Paralysed man walks using device that reconnects brain with muscles
Pioneering research could help development of miniaturised devices for stroke patients and paralysed peopleA man who was paralysed in a cycling accident in 2011 has been able to stand and walk with an aid after doctors implanted a device that reads his brain waves and sends instructions to his spine to move the right muscles.Gert-Jan Oskam, 40, was told he would never walk again after breaking his neck in a traffic accident in China, but has climbed stairs and walked for more than 100 metres at a time since having the operation.Continue reading...
