Dabigatran for stroke prevention in real life in a sample of population from Turkey: D-SPIRIT registry
CONCLUSION: This registry obtained an important overview of the current safety and effectiveness of the dabigatran etexilate in Turkey. Our results indicate similar rates of thromboembolic and bleeding events with pivotal phase 3 trial and other real-life registries. However, rate of undertreatment usage of dabigatran etexilate in real life was found to be considerable.PMID:34881702 | DOI:10.5543/tkda.2021.07734

Middle East Treatment Strategies and Clinical Outcomes in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation: One-Year Follow-up Data from Garfield-AF Study
ConclusionWe have found that rates of stroke and bleeding were lower, although mortality was higher, in the Middle East population. This paper describes the baseline characteristics, patterns of antithrombotic treatment and 1-year outcomes in Middle East AF patients.Trial Registrationhttp://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Identifier, NCT01090362.

New-onset atrial fibrillation following percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of AF post-PFO closure was low across studies, with a high level of between-study heterogeneity. Until a concerted effort is made to improve accurate AF diagnosis, it will be difficult to gauge the association between transcatheter PFO closure and incidence of AF. The harm of anticoagulation in patients with low-risk by CHADS2 and reclassified as high-risk by CHA2DS2VASc: inferences from TRAF cohort.
CONCLUSIONS: Clinical outcomes, net clinical benefit indices are negative; rates of death and hospitalization were significantly higher for OAC in reclassified category. This emphasizes the importance of greater attention to balancing the risks and benefits of OAC in patients with low risk by CHADS2 and reclassified as high-risk by CHA2DS2VASc. Atrial Fibrillation and Injected Aripiprazole: A Case Report
Conclusion In summary, although it is not possible to exclude confounding factors, the timing and dose-dependent effect of aripiprazole administration in our patient suggests an association between an initial intramuscular injection of long-acting aripiprazole and new onset of AF. This observation calls for clinical vigilance, not only in patients with additional risk factors for stroke but also in younger patients who might have predisposing factors for arrhythmias. Clinical practices of the management of nonvalvular atrial fibrillation and outcome of treatment: A representative prospective survey in tertiary healthcare centers across Turkey.
CONCLUSION: In atrial fibrillation, despite a high rate of persistence with initial treatment, the outcomes of stroke prevention and patient quality of life are not at the desired level. National health policies should be developed and implemented to better integrate international guidelines for the management of NVAF into clinical practice. PMID: 29512625 [PubMed - in process]

Mobile Cardiac Monitorization Is A Cost-Effective Tool For The Diagnosis And Management Of Atrial Fibrillation Compared To Holter: A Cost Effectiveness Study In Turkey
Mobile Cardiac Monitorization (MCT) frequently detects paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) in patients with cryptogenic stroke and transient ischemic accident (TIA). Length of monitoring is strongly associated with detection of PAF, with an optimal monitoring period of at least 21 days. The diagnostic yield of patients monitored with MCT is 61%. This is significantly higher than that of patients who use the Event monitor (23%) or the Holter monitor (24%). The aim of the analysis is to conduct a cost-effectiveness analysis of MCT versus Holter monitorization, with direct cost and payer perspective in atrial fibrillation.

Atrial fibrillation in immigrant groups: a cohort study of all adults 45  years of age and older in Sweden
In conclusion, we observed substantial differences in incidence of AF between immigrant groups and the Swedish-born population. A greater awareness of the increased risk of AF development in some immigrant groups may enable for a timely diagnos is, treatment and prevention of its debilitating complications, such as stroke.

Design and rationale of dabigatran's stroke prevention in real life in Turkey (D-SPIRIT).
CONCLUSION: Potential results of D-SPIRIT registry will add data from clinical practice to those from the RE-LY trial to expand knowledge of dabigatran etexilate treatment in patients with NVAF. PMID: 27138311 [PubMed - in process]
